Ok I've been making mods pretty much since i first started playing the game back in 2000. I only make mods for open bnett or single player so don't get all excited about trying to play a mod on a realm.

Mainly I make mods that are fun to play or that help my strategies in realm play.

The mod I am currently working on is a revamped character build tester. I made a char build tester back in .09 and it was great and then when the synergies popped up their heads it was extremely useful. I could make a char and lvl it into the high 80's in minutes and then use the skills anywhere i wanted to test how much the synergies actually helped.

Of course now we are in 1.11 and we have new runewords to add to the synergies. So the mod I am currently working on is a character build tester for all the goodness of 1.11, including glitch merc's.

Here's how it will go when I am finished it.

Make a new character
new starter items in your inventry
cube
2 hel runes
4 el runes
4 full rej potions
quilted armor
town portal book full at 20
id book full at 80 (new addition to mod 80 is max number in id book)
3 fulminating potions

First thing to do is put the quilted armor and 1 el rune in cube = 2 sock quilted armor
Next put 2 hel runes in the quilted armor = serendipity runeword (you'll love it)

ok so you just walk outside of act 1 and there will be groups of zombies and skelletons. they all have 1 life points so they are very easy to kill. After 1 group is dead you should be lvl 50 odd. Serendipity is lvl 36 required so now would be a good time to test it out.

All monsters in blood more drop items that will make nice runewords. The maximum number of sockets has been altered for this purpose. archon plate is now 3 max sockets, dusk is still 4 sock and both drop in blood more.

As you have done already 1 el rune and any socketable item in cube makes that item socketed. This cube recipe ignores the fact that items might already have sockets, magic, set or even unique.

Akara now sells all runes, perfect gems and full rej potions for 1 gold each.

So you can see within minutes your new char will be in high 80's and have any item that makes a usefull runeword.

The act 3 merc is now accessible in act1 so no need to get to act3 to try out a glitch merc. Andy is in the den, kill her and you can go to act2 if you wish to get an act2 merc.

All of normal has been changed to hell standards, you start with -70 all ress. hell is -100 and I accounted for the 3 anya quests to give a total of -70. From stoney onwards all monsters are exactly the same as hell.

For a real test pop into tower and see how your build holds up against the biggest monsters on realm d2.

I've put some uniques in cold plains and still adding a few more. Basically the uniques are the only thing left to add into the mod, as in make them drop when and where i want.

This is a very muddled up description of my mod, I'm sure it could be a lot better organised and easier to read but hey I just typed as I thought of things. You will have to try the mod to see it's full potential.

Again I say that this is for open bnett or single player only and not like the jsp bott single player I mean it only works on single and open.

It's 1 file that is around 2mb, basically the file that the game uses for all it's settings but modified to do what I want.

After taking the time to read all of that if anyone is interested in mods and such post here and if we have enough interest sgull might make a place for us to talk and discuss mods.

I can pretty much do anything with a mod (single only) with enough time.

I remember a mod I made a few years back even before the ubers were created by bnett. I had created my own and put them in the den of evil. I made diablo sooooo strong you needed an elite character build to just not die in 3 seconds.

Well anyway if anyone is interested post away =)

i tried a mod once where you just replace your patch_d2 mpq

it completely changed the entire game

i played it for about 5 minutes and deleted it,

there were too many skills and the skill tree graphics were horrible

when creating mods they only do what you want them to do. I don't change the skills usually on my mods, generally i leave them alone and make mods like the 1 i stated above. I also make mods that test the characters against monsters of my own settings. like dc but with 800,000 life and does alot more damage.

Mods only do what the creater wants them to do, the person that created the 1 that you used obviously wanted to do something with skills.

mods are modifications of the d2 files, I personally wouldn't call it hacking. simple altering of settings, like making zombies lvl 99 is as simple as changing the lvl setting for zombies to 99. changing the life of dc to 800,000 is as simple as changing it's life setting to 800,000.

the d2 files are just like a database of information, altering the information changes how d2 plays.

I wouldn't call it hacking at all.

Yeah he's just an idiot who isn't mature enough for new ideas.

why wouldnt you just test it on open bnet with a mod that you can easily download off a site such as zonfire?

risk of getting a key logger, no thx

besides I make mods to suit what I want. I've played in mod games others have created on open bnett and found them pretty crappy.
It's not hard to make mods so why d/l something that isn't totally what I want when I can just make my own.

Do you know any good Char maker/editors?

I downloaded this one thing, But it had no runewords, so i basically had to Take a ethereal ghost spear and add all the BOTD mods to it, then i had to do the same for all the other items and it took forever. In the end it wasnt even worth it because i had to compromise so many things it wasn't realistic anymore.

my mod sells all runes at akara. making runewords is easy. I also added all ladder runewords to work aswell. I admit I havn't played d2 in over a month and the mod hasn't been finished off yet. still some uniques to add. Apart from that the mod is working perfectly. If you want to try it out just tell me and we'll organise a way to get you the file and of course instructions on how to use it. If you have basic file using knowledge like copy, paste and creating new folders you should be fine.

Also added my own cube recipe to socket items. any socketable item and an el rune in cube makes it socketed, uniques, magic, rare and even already socketed items.

Since it only takes me a few minutes to make a char from new to 80+ I don't bother with actual character editors anymore. I used to use jamella before I started to make mods. I set it to get to 98 pretty fast and it won't go over 98, so you don't have to worry about the game stuffing up and trying to make a lvl 100 character. I had this problem alot in my earlier mods, I made them lvl too fast and the game would crash. Also the lvl is actual lvl experience aswell so if you go to play in a normal game it will keep its lvl.

Anyway if you want to try it out just tell me and we can organise something.

you should make uniques out of the unused unique names like warrivs traveler and larzuks champion

one time with a normal character editor i put a shitload of +%exp on, and at level 60 or so, i started alternating going backwards in levels... was very strange
