BA made changes to the forumula for the top beers of the world. Lids fucking magin all over the place. They made it so that the top listing includes beers that are more readily available. (needs 1000 total reviews to be on the list) I think it was a cool idea but to see something like Sam Adams lager and octoberfest appear in the top 100 makes me laugh.

Readily available means good, because if more people drink it, then it must be good. Higher price also means good, because if you charge $7-20 for a bomber, it is great beer. Ommegang and BrewDog are the primary offenders here, because I might pay $8 for a six pack of most BrewDog beers, and I would drink Hennepin if I had a sudden craving for a variety pack of car air fresheners soaked in Colt 45, but otherwise their swill is gratuitously overpriced.

way to variable because the fermentation and aging time tables before bottling from beer to beer so saying 4 weeks old is clearly the same beer ot beer

i know but you can absolutely say that by 4 weeks an ipa tastes different than even 2 weeks. at least every ipa ive ever had is so incredibly time sensitive. point being they are time sensitive and reviews of old ipas would be gone.

Three bottles into the six in the Flying Dog variety pack and they are all fucking terrible. I was generous on the first two because allergies were bothering me yesterday, but their "golden ale" tastes like skunked PBR.

I'm even more surprised when I realized that this was the same brewery that made Raging Bitch Belgian style IPA, that one is great.

Last two of the pack were good, but their "hefeweizen" seemed more like a slightly lighter clone of La Fin du Monde, and their "porter" was really hoppy. The 4.7ABV hefeweizen was the heaviest and strongest beer all around, and the 5-7% ones seemed really watery, and everything else seemed extraordinarily unusual about the beers, the descriptions, and reading other reviews - did I get the variety pack they made after 12 hits of LSD?

Their hefe is a great example of the style for an American company. The best hefe I have ever found was some little brew pub in Arizona and I wish I could go there again.

After having stones Cali Belgian, I like raging bitch is a much better beer. The hop flavor is up front and pronounced while the belgian yeast profile comes through very well in the finish. Cali Belgian was just a mix mash of flavor to where it was to complicated to distinguish anything specifically.

Raging Bitch certainly has the hops pronounced and up front, but I don't recall it too well as I had it a very long time ago. I had Cali-Belgique too far into a night of too much beer to remember it very well, I will need to try it again.

The other 4 in the variety pack disappointed me though, they were all very watery, the porter was hoppy but clearly much malt, the golden ale tasted like Coors, the amber tasted like Michelob, and the pale ale tasted more like Miller Lite than a legit pale ale.

It's clearly like it was "scheduled" the moron just text me saying Utopias on Friday to which I replied, did you give Dan more than 2 days of notice? The kid is so spontaneous and polar, we JUST talke about it last weekend and I told him that we should ask when several people would be available weeks in advance and I'd supply a bunch of other beers to do a great big tasting.

If it goes down on Friday, your portion will be saved. In the likely event that Bryan gets drunk and drinks it himself or gives it away to someone else, I'm sure I can talk him into buying another bottle in November when I am back in Boston.

This ended up being a 600 reply crybaby fest and they ended up changing it back as expected.

I still have mixed thoughts on the idea, I think there should be a more readily available list and things such as oak aged or vanilla aged darklord should clearly be included since it is only available to people 1 or 2 days out of the year.

Agreed, because the general population will clearly spend 10$ on a 750mL beer just to taste so some reference is good when people are looking to try something.

Odell's IPA is one of the best ipas I've ever had. Second only to Sculpin IPA's double dry hopped aroma. Had the Odell last night and was completely taken off guard by how well balanced and delicious it was. 7% abv and it drank cleaner/easier than most ipas with almost half that abv.

Big big pliz to them getting distribution in PA.

I thought that this was excellent, but I had it after I was at some girl's 21st birthday party, so I might clearly be a good judge.

I had it on the porch by candlelight and it's orange color was amazing. Proelbay the only hefeweizen that I have thoroughly enjoyed.

I don't think Eastern Tenneessee is going to be a good place to find excellent craft beers, but at least I can score some fantastic homeade grain alcohol.

Sculpin IPA is exceptional, I haven't seen Odell's IPA around here though.

Weihenstephaner's Hefe is an amazing beer, Schneider-Weisse is much easier to find around here, but doesn't have the same perfection - Weihenstephaner just has a perfect balance of flavor and beer elements in balance with liquid so it is flavorful and very drinkable/accessible.

I'm clearly a big hefeweizen fan but I drink them during the summer.

It's proelbay the single most brewed style of beer for me because the ingrediants are all basic and the dominating flavor is from the yeast. Everytime I brew it I try a new yeast or a different fermenting temperature and each time it comes out different in it's own unique way.

The people who visit seem to have no problem consuming 5 gallons a weekend so I guess I'm doing something right.

Great beer

I recently started a google doc to keep track of everything that is lurking in my basement and to help categorize the ones which have a shorter shelf life.

After 2 hours I was almost half way done... I pretty much lost the motivation to finish it but I have to because I know there are beers down there that I need to drink this year.

I'm too poor to have a beer cellar of the same caliber as yours, but the google doc is a good idea!

Here is today's haul, plus the four Southern Tier bottles that previously constituted my cellar collection.

Turned my notes on the Magic Hat dinner into full sentences and pooped reviews of those six on tap - I had #9 and Wacko on tap only a few nights before at a sports bar that ... isn't the same caliber of establishment ... and the difference in freshness was amazing. Kegs were brought in fresh, specifically for this event, and #9 makes a huge jump in quality due to the freshness.
