in other more important news:
brewing a pale ale tomorrow since I dont have work, going to use 100% hops grown at the stakem estate

which stakem estate? yours or parents?

and wats on tap for fri or sat aside from possible beer tasting

the hops grown at my house, the hops i have planted at my parents just established a root system this year, they didnt produce more than a handful of cones

and now that I have crunched the numbers, this is going to be 5 gallons of an ipa, clearly a pale ale

just finished brewing the pale ale
all my hesitations about my home grown hops clearly producing enough bitterness were put to rest when i took a sample before pitching the yeast

this is pretty much going to be a pale ale with the bitterness of an IPA

was going for an original gravity of 1.057 and hit 1.054
still in the range of about 5.5% alcohol when finished

i ran across it a little over a year ago and was bamboozled by it with the whole julian coding, etc. however since that time the dude hasnt updated it. alesmith for example (just looking at the first page) has started using date codes

i want to punch the guy in the face who compared this beer to "under hyped" pliny and talked me into trading for a bottle of this garbage

seriously this beer was horrible compared to month + old pliny

We are spoiled in PA and pretty much have it year round. The imperial version is quite under appreciated

Had another Jackie O's brew last night that was amazing. I made up my mind after drinking it that Feb 5th I'm driving out to the pub for their next bottle release.

Maybe they fixed the brew system and maybe he takes more care in his special releases. All I know is that when he took over across the board the consensus was that the quality went down. I think a brewery should be judged on their overall lineup clearly just small batch stuff they do clearly have on tap all of the time.

I guess my biggest problem is their two flagship beers went to shit. Their ohio pale ale and razwheat went from great beers to crap within a 6 month stretch.

Quincedence = a wild scotch ale that had Quince fruit added during barrel aging.
Dark apparition is amazing and I am looking forward to both the vanilla and kopi luwak versions.

we are going to be there at like 5 a.m.
getting a "number" at 7 a.m. going out to have breakfast and then returning at 11:00 to buy the beer and then they are hosting a beer festival with 50 different things on tap

im pretty sure we arn't going to go anywhere else but if that changes i will keep that in mind

hmm well breakfast you can go to the union street diner about a block or two away from jackie Os otherwise there is bob evans down on stimson. clearly a whole lot else goign to be open that early.

For lunch/dinner you should go to casa nueva on west state street (dinner leaves you with more menu options) They have a great lineup of salsa, best mixed drinks in town, good beer selection, and very good food.

well the brewery is pushing people to go there after getting their numbers in line

to do pre-release bottle sharing between attendees

lots of time to kill between 5 a.m. and the brewpub opening at 11
