lol, the kit as-is is perfect for your first time
It's inevitable that you are gonna fuck something up. There is no need to waste money on extra special ingredients until you get a handle on what you are doing

My first 2 dark beers (stout and porter) exploded during primary fermentation
*knock on wood* I never had a bottle bomb

As long as you are taking proper gravity readings and paying attention to what you are doing you won't cause serious harm to yourself or others

so if i need to choose yeast just take the cheapest for now? im sure it wont matter as this first batch is 99% doomed anyway.

Don't fucking curse this batch before you even get your panties off. You can make a quality brew with extract and dehydrated yeast. The liquid yeasts are dialed in for style specifics and personal preferences.

sitting here completely shocked at how much my imperial IPA tastes like hopslam

also tapped my first sample of my oatmeal stout and it too is very impressive... however, it is more of a robust porter than a stout... a little too brown, need to up the amount of black patent and chocolate malt to make it darker next time. overall very pleased with the roastiness and sweet grain smell it has. for 8% abv it drinks like 4

we still have bottles of great divide hercules that expired 4 months ago (expired, thats right) and all kinds of other ipas that are so old i feel bad for anyone who buys them. i spend the first 10 min in there looking for new stuff, then make a second pass on what to get
need to get a bottle of sanctification from him, he brought in either 6 or 12 and still has either 5 or 11 after like 3 weeks
salem is stupid

sanctification 375mls or 750's?

375

damn them and their decision to move all of their beers to half sized bottles but clearly cut the price in half....

so oregon is maybe getting 13 cases, one per store
chances of my local place getting one id say about 25%-33%.  and my poor local place, which is run by an elderly asian dude, never has any idea whats coming.  the distributor never tells him shit
the other side of that token is abyss is still there cuz salem is stupid

lets see just how far we can push these craft beer prices
next thing you know you will be paying 10 bucks to try a bomber of a local beer with no date that is marginal

god bless portsmouth and the greater area of boston
Julio's liquors
entire coolers full of bombers from assorted breweries for $3.95-4.99
saw berkshire coffee porter, raspberry barleywine, old ale... all high octane and less than 5 bucks

go to portsmouth, all of their bombers (except for kate the great) are between 4.99 and 7.99, growler of imperial IPA for like $14

*sigh* at least PA has the best selection
