and there are 2 of them, younger and elder
i missed the younger on tap, and the elder in bottles twice

no one ever gives advanced notice or there would be too many people (at least thats the assumption i assume) so they poop it on their site like the day before.

and btw, at this point pliny the younger is over the hill for the year and clearly worth drinking

seriously i had it in february and almost shit my panties because it was only a week old and so much flavor it was unreal. drinking pliny is like having a cup full of hop juice and you taste all these individual characters of hops but without the huge bitterness... i have no idea how Russian River does it

I had the younger a second time a month later and it tasted drastically different, nearly identical to pliny the elder except a little more alcohol

reason I ask is because the place where i am going to pick up a case of founders kentucky breakfast stout (when it comes in) also has a case of hair of the dog: cherry wood Adam

they also have cases of doggie claws now and before they had both fred and adam from the wood

but those cases run nearly 180...

Also, don't cellar any form of ipa m8 (unless you are looking to see how quick hop character can fade)
ipas are suppose to be enjoyed as fresh as possible
about the only exception I can think of that is an exception would be dogfish heads Burton baton but that still is better fresh IMO

right side of my nose is plugged, so heres my take on dominion

do i taste peppermint? do i smell peppermint? wtf is going on lol.
yes, i do infact taste peppermint. maybe im confusing this with something else, but peppermint is kinda distinctive.

its really good, and quite different than the alaska, this is seemingly thicker, and i can hardly tell there is alcohol. id like to nerd it up and give you all the hidden flavors, but i didnt realize i was so plugged up until after i started drinking it. i can still tell its pretty amazing stuff.

the "Indian" part can be thought of just like "Imperial"
in both cases, Indian for IPA and Imperial for Russian Imperial Stout (RIS), this is a dated term that reflects a time when hops were used merely as a preserative to ship long distance. In the imperial aspect, it was used to over hop stout beers that were sent to the russian imperial court. the only way the beer would get to them and still be drinkable is if a ton of hops were put in them to make the journey without going bad

today Imperial can refer to any number of things
Imperial or double can refer to an above average alcohol content, malt content, or hops

in the past it was used simply to be able to transport it from point A to B, today (with roughly 40 more strains and hybrids of hops) we have the luxory of clearly using hops just for their preservative quality but as as bitterness, flavor and aroma

make sense?

CURRENTLY DRINKING:
laurelwood free range red ale

this aint bad, touch of the ipa feel but clearly overly bitter at all. still the characteristics of a red beer (or at least when i think of a red ale). if you like hops, this is a great twist on a red. if you want a typical red, this may be something you think is a travesty.

also found a bottle of yeti imperial stout (clearly the aged one, this is over a year old by date on bottle)
they randomly had 2 bottles, bought 1

update:

place had a single bottle for 5.49, a 4 pack for 15.59 :donno:
bottled 1/20/2010, i like yeti, very rich, donno if its the hops but the few stouts ive had have huge ranges from being like 100% taste upfront to like the yeti, abundance of flavor throughout. and maybe i dont know what to expect from a stout, but they just seem to vary so much.

i really like this yeti stuff, maybe because of the hops though, donno

also found a bottle of yeti imperial stout (clearly the aged one, this is over a year old by date on bottle)
they randomly had 2 bottles, bought 1

update:

place had a single bottle for 5.49, a 4 pack for 15.59 :donno:
bottled 1/20/2010, i like yeti, very rich, donno if its the hops but the few stouts ive had have huge ranges from being like 100% taste upfront to like the yeti, abundance of flavor throughout. and maybe i dont know what to expect from a stout, but they just seem to vary so much.

i really like this yeti stuff, maybe because of the hops though, donno

more i drink the more burnt choc i taste.
my ears pop with every swallow, kinda shitty

i absolutely did clearly like the steam character of this beer. and because of that i couldnt even formulate if i liked the rest of the beer, i could only taste the burnt steam flavor.

but gz on rating beer, im still just a wittle guy for ratings.
