DuClaw has arrived in PA. Had a release party at a local place with 20+ brews on tap. I am super impressed with their rye chocolate porter. It is a standout among other stouts and the best thing i have tried from them thus far. They have a bourbon barrel aged version of it but I think I actually like the base beer better.

They have something strange going on with their hoppy beers. I tried like 3 different ones and they all had an overabundance of residual sugar. Way too sweet for me to enjoy more than a couple ounces of. I look forward to trying more of their stuff.

its going to be easier to say what breweries that actually are available to me from the east (without driving an hour and then even then its hit and miss)

victory storm king, hop wallop, prima pils, something else that seems to rotate
dfh wws, 90 min, burton baton, chicory stout
southern random bombers here and there, unearthly, creme brulee, etc
sam adams lagers, seasonals

i cant think of other brewers that have a real regular presence in my city, list ideas and i can confirm/deny

i drink serum every time i go to duclaw, which is like once every week or two

euphoria is what my wife loves, sometimes i try the seasonals, but usually serum is best

I had a cask version of serum that was aged with pineapple and mango. while it sounded amazing, it was fucking horrible. it was sweeter than candy.

euphoria was also on cask. it was aged over caramel apples and was decent but it had a strange yeasty thing going on with it that I wasnt really thrilled with

As advertised, just cracked open a growler of berliner weisse from a guy in jersey. It comes from a brewery I never heard of (Carton Brewing Company) and it is fucking solid. Very nice and tart, clearly necessarily sour but tart and almost lemony.

Greatest brewery disappointment to date:
Hill Farmstead's hoppy beers.

In the past 2 months I got to try 5 of their hoppy brews which have been hyped to hell and back. In a blind tasting im pretty sure I couldn't tell the difference between their American Blonde, Pale Ale, IPA and DIPA. All of them smell and taste of straw with a lasting grassy bitterness. What a let down.

Add 2 more to the list. Tried 7 now and only one of them was noticeably different from the others. I will NEVER purchase or actively pursue another hoppy offering from this brewery.

I havent been keeping up to date on this. What are the ingrediants this year?
Chocolate that turns into a turd in the bottle?
Pineapple and rosemary?

(obviously still bitter about clearly being crazy over last years and the year befores being dumped)

I started at 3:30 ish.

I figured 5 pm being 2 timezones away was enough of a wait. Besides it's fucking Sunday, and I was cleaning earlier. I earned it.

i took a shower, and did a load of laundry and dishes. does that qualify as "earning it"?

Buddy of mine is brewing beer now. His second batch tasted amazing but we didn't get to talk to much since it was celebrated at a get together with m8s. Was like a red amber, but was far superior to anything i've tried in the bigger market.

must try more homebrew

Dan dodged meeting for beers 3 days in a row over the weekend.
Black marketing beer to his local shop has taken precedence.
I am forced to drink rare beer by the growler by myself.
