drinking lagunitas brown shugga, dont really care for the hop profile.  same with brown shugga substitute

:donno:

i liked them, though they are both like 10%

i just dont find lagunitas to be as amazing as others. they are a great price point though.

a friend recently gave me 4x bottles of the brown shugga substitute, i thought it wasnt bad at all

2nd 3 frogs ipa (elevator brewing co) of the night, will finish with either an old rasputin or old stock 2011.

I think next time I'm up that way I'll ask if they ever get older vintages of this. I'd love to try an 08 or 09.

No idea on price yet. I think the owner wants to stockpile a few different brews to have a grand opening release/party once the new bigger brewery is open in April/May.

haha.

it was an awkward part in the brewing process. that white pvc pipe that is coming through the wall is the crushed grain. the grain we weighed out and ran through a mill in the other room. its pulled up through the pipe with an auger. since i wanted to use rye, that cant be put through the mill or it will turn to powder. so i had to add 80 pounds of it with that small plastic bucket directly into the mash while the other crushed grains were pouring in

standing above a kettle that is 150 degrees and pouring 50 buckets of flaked rye into a shoot was cumbersome. i was sweating in minutes.

i will do everything in my power to hook you guys up. but please know that if the beer turns out as well as we hope it does, we might sacrifice a barrel or 2 to split and blend to innoculate some future batches. if thats the case, the yield might only be 200-300 bottles this time around.

Dan hasnt chimed in yet but i know he will want some too. of course my friends and family are lobbying hard to get the lions share in this as well. i am likely getting a case to disperse. time will tell

really happy for you here
must be awesome to brew on that large of a scale versus a 5 gallon tub that produces 2 cases

hah no. this is near harrisburg and the yield per batch is around 120 -140 gallons depending on strength of beer and time boiled. they are constructing a brand new facility (floor was poured yesterday) that will have the potential to have 120 beers on tap. the brewhouse there will be 4x larger so those batches will be around 500-600 gallons

Knowing your limitations id be glad to share one with you/others at your place or somewhere so the 1 bottle gets the most use, and maybe save one for myself for later.

significantly better than last year but nowhere near the caliber of awesomeness that made me fall in love with this beer years ago

going to purch a case monday, assuming the distributor here has cases yet

$42.97 plus tax, why is this more expensive than their other beers?

i give up on trying to understand Troegs. they jumped the shark

but to answer your question. originally they put twice the amount of hops in that beer than any other they made which drove up costs. add to the fact its seasonal and hyped up allows them to charge more because the demand is still there regardless of them making the same recipe as they once did...or clearly

i was a nonbeliever until i tasted that amazing nectar for myself
never in my life could i possibly imagine that running a beer through an artificial means of filtering would alter a brews character THAT much. however i guess it makes sense. if you run a brew threw a micron filter, clearly only do you remove the yeast but you remove some of the essential oils/lupulin that the hops impart
