depends what you play
every year NHL games get more and more realistic to how the game is actually played IRL. the problem with that is that the game is so complex, so every year the casual non-hockey watcher becomes more out of the loop with all the intricate details, but for people like me i fucking love it. the Be a Pro mode this year is fabulous, you basically play all 60 minutes, but when youre not on the ice you can sim to your next shift. that means you cant play 48 minutes a game like last years copy, and teams actually get the appropriate amount of shots per game.
3rd liner plays 10 min a game
2nd is like 15-20
1st is 18-25

so finally you basically have half as much control in your teams fate on any given night, and since i picked a terrible team, that really shows.

ive also noticed that from last year to this year my stats flipped. in NHL 11 i scored so many goals, like 2-3 per game on average while getting an assist every other game. this years copy i have the opposite happening as the same style of player, FWIW

fifa is super awful, better to just be the manager
nba is ok, but you can't be the coach also, so terrible substitutions get made at terrible times

i am a casual non-hockey watcher, watch p much only the finals, maybe more of the playoffs

will probably just upgrade to fifa 12, tyvm

also influencing htis decision: everyone in my house plays fifa/madden/nba, and watches football/futbol/basketball no one plays nhl/watches hockey

Be a Pro is only one aspect, they have the Be A GM (General Manager) mode as well where you run the team and play who ever has the puck when the game starts etc. But if you're not that big into hockey you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference from NHL 11 to NHL 12 where as me and Spencer who play them a LOT, notice several amazing changes.

I heard it's hard to understand controls if you haven't played every NHL iteration for the past x years.

got it for christmas on ps3, it's pretty fun
especially hockey league with a m8 or be a pro when playing alone
also tried ultimate hockey team, it's pretty cool too

my m8 as goalie, myself as left or right wing, rest cpus against teams of goalie + 1-5 other human operated players
most fun i've had gaming in a long time
