if i make peace with catherine i wont really have any victory available

too many cities and too far behind culturally, my science is middle of the pack, lost a few diplo votes by being at war

i should have played this game differently and spent gold on purchasing buildings/units instead of feeding tons of citystates

they are good for defense at the beginning while you expand, but they just get in the way at later game

should have also went into rationalism tree for my third policy so i can spend my faith on great scientists instead of great engineers

great engineers are somewhat useless when you cant build any wonders (11 AI civs on immortal)

also better manage my buildings so that i always am getting rome's special ability in every other city

didnt pay enough attention to that and probably wasted a lot of production turns because i didnt build something in the capital first

turn 66, i have 5 new cities (all pop 1 still, building libraries/granaries in each as opening construction), 3 workers (1 from social policy)

one scout has been scouting since turn 5 or so, met 5 enemy civs so far, 7 citystates

carthage and the celts both just declared war, i think i probably have 3 turns before they each have 3-4 warriors/spearmen appearing at the doorstep of Ravenna

pic for location of those 2 civs capitals

ironworking researches in 3 turns, hopefully i have an iron supply, would probably take 8 or so turns to get a worker there and have a mine built, then i can produce roman legions to defend myself

i dont like playing the rome style games, where you need to expand to more marginally good cities. i have more fun playing with smaller core cities and build them up.
but thats just me ofc, though i guess if you rush the liberty policy with free settler and bonus production then just pump out a quick 4 or so, but that always seems to trigger the computer to attack because ofc you cant defend it.
so im back to i prefer smaller, more focused empires. until puppet cities.

at least they changed catapults/trebuchet/etc to not require an iron any more, that was killer having them plus your swordsman both take iron and not having any of it

that wouldnt change my enjoyment. the part about being attacked was only if you have proper civs/map size ratio. either way fuck rome.

secured the iron source, its just on the inside of Mediolanum so i should be able to keep it safe from pillaging without any problem

the carthage troops have started to arrive

i dont understand faith if you arent one of the civs that gets to found a religion, do you just not build any sort of faith buildings and accept whatever enemy religion is spread to your cities?

i wont be able to get a religion this game probably since i didnt build any shrines outside of my capital, and theres only 7 allowed for 12 players

note to self; make sure cities have enough buildings to be self-sufficient and not detrimental to the empire before building units

everything has been going very very well so far, all my warriors are upgraded to legions and started building roads, i have enough luxuries to keep me happen until more cities build colosseums, and my cities are all in great defensive spots

only celtic unit ive seen is a single scout which i killed, dido has brought her first actual force, they are just arriving now through carthage, my military and city defenses are more than enough to hold them off

not having to make a single military unit from my capital really helps too, since i can make every building as the tech is researched, and keep up on settler production as well

every other time ive had to spend so much production on military just to stay alive, this game was just awesome with the terrain i had

you should play the earth map, it adds another dimension when you know the general terrain of everywhere on the map

second gr8 engi spawn from rome, hurried the porcelain tower (not sure if i had to hurry but taking no chances, +50% scienece from research agreements will probably be huge in this game, especially for science victory)

leaning tower of pisa was built by another civ with 6 turns left on my desert production city
