played another game today, had a much better start, eliminated gandhi and had 5 cities by turn 100, had the whole continent of resources
had a huge economy from holding my entire continent of luxuries and selling them off

around turn 200 i started war on germany (on the other continent, but had 4 or 5 cities at the southern end of my continent, razed them all

now im at turn 264, 1770 ad, ive got a decent sized land army and about 7 or 8 navy, but persia on the other side of the map just hit atomic era, donno what to do (im still in the industrial era)

no idea how im so far behind on tech, i kept research agreements up with everyone who had the gold, and i have a decent amount of cities who ive kept pretty close to up-to-date on tech buildings

just took the former egyptiian capital from germany, it borders the few cities egypt has left (hes insignificant at this point), and couple of persian cities (persia is the one in the nuclear age)

im going to attempt declaring war on persia and, if nothing else, killing his units and forcing him to defend his cities instead of building more infrastructure

will stay at war with germany, hes isolated from me and poses no real threat, but he wont give me anything for peace (hes fairly powerful at this point too, slightly ahead of me in tech)

his bombers attacking the artillery in the citadel kept killing it in 1 turn (4 bombers) but i had enough new artillery coming in to put a new one there every time, eventually the bombers health dropped too low and i killed a few

his ironclads and battleships completely destroyed what i had of a navy in that harbor

i managed to take the city once by flanking his artillery through egypts city in the south, this is update after he took it back 1st time

User Image

reinforcing my artillery is hard enough, ive lost my gatling guns and rifleman so i dont have much melee left to capture the city, but my tech finished and now i can build landships, still way far behind him though

unfortunately he now has machine guns and infantry, who have 98 strength, compared to artillery's 28 attack

no way to kill the units, they would get promotion heals faster than 4 artillery would kill them

another shitty thing about computers is that they dont understand how to kill the leading civ

also why i get so enraged at playing risk with people who dont understand that concept

new game, turn 100

im getting way way better at early game compared to even just a few games ago
2 citystates very allied with me so far, winning a "most faith" contest to make a third one my ally (one has gifted me 2 warriors and 2 chariot archers already, my whole military basically)
finished tradition social policy and 1 point in tradition (completed oracle for free policy, also completed the pyramids)
economy and science very strong

carthage stole 2 techs from me, after i told them to stop spying both times, denounced the second time

she took tribute off my citystates, then talked shit about my military

what that bitch dido didnt realize is that the 3 chariot archers gifted from my m8 citystate all upgrade into my unique unit the camel archer, and my 4 warriors garrisoned in my cities are ready to be swordsman, and i had just finished physics to upgrade my 2 gifted catapults to trebuchets

the only problem with attacking her is that polynesia is her good ally, and is right next to me/in the way of attacking dido

im not sure if getting a few quick military techs then steamrolling both of their entire empires will be good for me in the long term or bad, so ill wait it out a little longer

unconditional surrender from polynesia, he gave me his stupid worthless desert city (on my landmass at least), he had no luxuries and no gold, i think he just gave all of that to someone else who was at war with him (wouldnt make sense to give your resources to the guy who is currently conquering all your shit, give it to the guy on the other side of the world who declared war on you)

dido stole another tech, declared war on her

closest in second place was napolean with a few spaceship parts, which i killed on the launchpad

rome, i appear to be in a peninsula at the north of a larger landmass, i got a very lucky start, discovering first natural wonder (+500g), then hitting a ruins to increase my population to 2 (required to buy a settler), so i bought a settler on turn 3

first tech is mining, as there was a gold resource by a river in a prime spot for my 2nd city

hardly any luxuries at spawn, this constantinople bitch settled so damn close i had no room to roman expand so i had to fight her

no way to control unhappiness, economy and culture/faith are behind (even without building military units in capital idk)

went in too many directions at once in this game, need to decide a long-term strategy in these games, also need to play a few games as each different civ to get to know the playstyle better

gn8 to this one i believe, might pick it up later and see how the next 50 turns go to see if im still in contention

that game is still ok i think, i have great territory now, and there must be strategics like coal and oil there because there wasnt shit for other resources

i just dont see a way to get back to happy empire any time soon is the problem
economy cant sustain citystates
id have 3 extra spices 2 citrus and 1 dyes to trade, but i need to meet the other civs first
donno

im not really sure how to even play a wide empire, i always play tall by maximizing food/growth

it seems foreign to go for buildings like university before things like stable or lighthouse/harbor

turn 180 update, i got my happiness up to around 20 by more trades with new discovered civs, and from religion with 2 happiness perks spread to my 6 cities + 2 citystates
my culture and faith accelerated very fast with roman boost to build speed of buildings that already exist in capital, and filled out the piety policy (dont like this, rationalism is so good and piety locks it out)

somehow babylon declared war on my and moved about 11 knights from off-screen into my territory on the same turn, which i have no idea how thats even possible
i have no units to defend but maybe i can hang on and purchase some, donno

update, after loading, i realized that i had given open borders to babylon and he sat units in the spaces between my cities that wasnt my territory, then declared war and came in from all sides

built a few more units and didnt give him open borders, so he didnt declare war

culture is very strong, the synergy with piety tree and my cultural/happiness boosting religion is really helping
happiness is very good now due to religion and some citystate gifts (i have 3 cultural citystates allies), also trading for all luxuries
im behind in science but not extremely so

i think i can contend for a cultural victory

wasnt going to win the above game, just too much self-defense shit had to be done in that game, and i dont think rome culture victory is even viable

next game coming, gonna finish the whole thing in one sitting, no matter how long it takes
