ps suns over nba
i love the suns but i don't think they have it in them. grant hill and steve nash are two of my favourite players. they both work hard, they both love the game, and they're both good people .. and they both have great skills. i stand by my conviction that if hill hadn't been injured so many times with major foot injuries, he would've been one of the best players in the history of the game, right up there with jordan and bryant. he's 37 (i think) and he can still jump and reach above the white box in the backboard.
i agree with STQ that the celts have a good chance to win the east, but i don't think they're still going to be an elite team in the NBA. the east is up in the air, and it's true that it's underpowered compared to the west (more so this year than in previous years). orlando, miami and a few other teams could make a run to the finals. my odds-on pick for the east would be orlando right now. washington and milwaukee will be the most interesting teams to watch, just in case their young leaders can help them improve their respective positions. they're teams that could suddenly become very dangerous. and of course we can't forget the hawks, mainly due to their athleticism.
in the west, to be sure, i'm not counting the spurs out (i'm just counting them out of the western finals). i don't think they're an elite team anymore, but they possess a lot of experience, they have a strong organization, and they have some really good young players and some highly skilled veterans. not to mention they have one of the best coaches in the NBA. i just don't think they're legit contenders in the west because the west is overloaded with talent. young teams like the thunder and the grizzlies are going to press a lot of "borderline" playoff teams this year. the lakers and the rockets have great role players and each team has a dominate star. the clippers may end up looking at a playoff spot just because blake griffin is going to be a major impact type of player this year. denver and utah are loaded with talent. the mavs are set to be a great team on paper, but i'm sure they will disappoint as usual. every team in the west would make the playoffs in the east, so i expect that the bottom spots in the west will be hotly contested. there are so many young guys like demarcus cousins that could have a major impact this year that predicting the bottom of the western playoffs map is pointless.
the pre-season indicates nothing about the regular season, but based on the performances by a lot of young players, we can be pretty sure this will be the best rookie year since '03:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_NBA_Drafti really hope jeremy lin will make an nba team and get some playing time this year. a guy like that shouldn't be passed up, because he has a lot of speed and talent. i was really happy to see him destroy john wall in the 4th quarter of a pre-season game. he exposed john wall's two biggest weaknesses but he also showed off his own strengths. just b/c the guy went to harvard, it doesn't mean he can't play ball.
