baseball you can catch highlights and see box scores and be in the loop as to how the season is going

basketball you might as well go to the zoo and watch monkeys fling shit at each other for an hour every other night

low key i watched the entire season and playoffs

you know, cause basketball is exciting

it's sport as art, and nowhere near as boring as soccer, which is the next closest sport to being art

true fuckin story

one of the top 10 centers to ever play the game? Sure, but that's it.

not that it matters, but there is a pride and respect that goes with bringing a city to the top, and lbj wont have that. nothing away from his game, the dude is amazing. but its his attitude that i dont like. he has no humility at all.

top 5, one of the most dominating players ever. him, wilt, jabar top that list imo as just purely unstoppable at their peak.

top 5 you could maybe argue for...

no matter what you have to put wilt, russel, kareem and Olajuwon ahead of him and there are definitely others that you could put ahead

no matter what you have to look at the fact that he was never matched up against a truly great big man, except in that one finals against Olajuwon...where he got swept

not to mention he benefited from a number of nba rule changes during his career

trouble with olajuwon is ewing was "arguably" better, though olajuwon had the amazing fadeaway
and i totally disagree that shaq had game-changing rules in his favor. if anything the game is far more small guy driven today than anytime since the 70s

yeah and olajuwan was in his 11th year, not nearly at his best...no way 11 seasons hadn't started to take a wear on his body

my favorite is how a defensive player can just stand there and he would just back them down and never be called for the offensive foul

but i'm sure the rules didn't favor him at all in that regard

their stats are pretty comparable...olajuwon was definitely more "skilled"

true
but on the same token shaq got hacked and "over the backed" on nearly every play, with most not called. he was just so imposing that anything he did created contact and often it was not called, on both sides.

yea, he was so good in the post. and the heat (edit: watching the heat, meant rockets OFC) actually went out and got help. the knicks never brought anyone big into ny to help ewing. johnny "the streak" starks, charles smith, etc etc

comment on previous point about rule changes:
once they stopped letting you arm check and introduced "illegal defense" it really opened things up, then they countered that with the "no charge zone" or w/e. and that really helps the slashers/drivers more than anyone in the post. when shaq was young the game was certainly more physical, though more points were scored per game than today.
