Seriously, if you told me Dalton would throw two picks and be held to 93 yards I'd have assumed
the game was a walk.

Fuck off.

simms hates the roughing the qb call just now, which involved a push, but liked the previous one which involved 2 guys sliding and bumping into each other

ESPN Stats & Information tells us that Newton on Monday became the second quarterback ever to throw a touchdown pass that took his team from behind to ahead against a Brady team in the final minute of a game.

the call was correct, gronk was in the back of the end zone, ball was intercepted in the front of the end zone, holding call was irrelevant

I want you to watch this phase by phase. I'll break it down for you.

So Gronk has his eyes on the ball, there are 2 defenders in the area. The ball is under thrown. But what happens next?

The defender decides to grab hold of Gronk and push him. This effectively ruins any possible chance to catch the ball. And the Referee did not call the pass interference for either 2 of possible reasons. He hesitated and did not get a good look on the trajectory of the ball and the timing of the pushing the defender did to determine if it was PI. Or he just didn't want to call a flag on the last play of the game and live by the "let them play" idea.

Now this is a pretty slippery slope on this play. But if this defender did not push Gronk a good 3-4 feet, is it potentially possible Gronk could go for the ball and make a play on it. I would say yes and mostly everyone else thought so as well.

The defender made 2 no nos in pass coverage. Number one he took his eyes off the ball and crowded the defender, which is illegal. He then put his hands on Gronk and made no attempt at intercepting the ball or swatting it. He effectively does 2 illegal forms of pass coverage within 1-2 seconds. And the ref being indecisive and not diagnosing that the ball was potentially catchable and not throwing the flag is in my eyes a bad call.

Also Gronk was in the front of the endzone until he started getting pushed by a defender that led him to the back of the endzone. How do you make a break on a ball when you got a defender pushing you in the direction you are running.

This was a controversial call. But they happen and you can't expect everything to be perfect. The Pats only have themselves to blame for this game, but it was a fucked up call.
