I have a Dell Dimension 4600 (1 GB RAM)

My mother has a Dell Dimension 4700 (.5 GB RAM)

I want each to have 2 GB of RAM

What is cheap RAM that I can use and how do I install it?

What kind of RAM?
DDR2 or DDR?

It takes about 30 seconds to put it in.
And how cheap is cheap.

Or, you get 1 more GB, some times they won't work together, some times they will.

go to crucial.com. run test. go to newegg. look up ram.

my guess is you can get the 1 gig to 2 gig (2 x 512) for under 30 bucks. the .5 you may as well replace with 2 x 1 gig (maybe 40 bucks tops, depending).

2. now go to new egg and check the ddr ram, and match the speed for your computer.

I think it said 2700 or 3200

you can go with the highest number, as that is the fastest ram your computer supports. you may want to match what you have for the 1 gig -> 2 gig computer, though generally it will dumb itself down to the lowest common denominator.

I have 2 x 512 now, so 2 x more 512 ofc

you also have one computer with only 512, right? so for that one just get 2 x 1 gig sicks, unless 4 x 512 are cheaper.
