Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva , who considers himself a friend of Castro and was in Havana last month, called the Cuban leader "one of the great icons of humanity's history," according to the Oglobo.com website.
what the fuck is wrong with you
I am not surprised to see a Wisconsin collegiate student so confused by this statement...
He is probably one of the most recognizable figures of the 20th (21st) century. To try to dispute that is asinine.
I'm glad to see retards are being produced from "white" America.
I would dispute his significance in perspective to "humanity's history".
As far as political leaders go, I would say that Churchill, Reagan, Stalin, Hitler, Mandela, Truman, Ataturk, Lenin, Mao Zedong, Roosevelt, Mussolini, and Gorbachev are all considerably more significant than Castro, along with dozens of others who played a larger role. Though Castro did play a role in the cold war during the Cuban Missile Crisis, for the most part Castro's political career has been much less notable than many other international incidents.
In addition to those political leaders, there are hundreds of other icons in the 20th century alone, from pop culture icons like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson to a scholarly scientist such as Albert Einstein or cunning engineers like the Wright brothers.
Castro's significance is overstated here, and the context also implies that Castro was a positive icon.
