30 more minutes of swimming, but this time more of the 30 minutes was spent swimming

still got my ass kicked, still feel good about it

my arms and legs kind of feel worn out but they arent sore in the morning, so i guess the big thing i need to be concerned about for now is working my heart out so it can catch up to the way my arms and legs are so they can be sore at a later date

and no chins im not looking to lift weights ever, i dont give a fuck about looking big, just dont like being out of breath after 3 flights of stairs and a 5 min walk

swimming targets muscles and muscle groups in ways we're not used to in regular situations; there's more circumduction, rotation, etc--even adduction and abduction, when it happens, becomes really difficult. flexion and extension happen less when we swim, but more often when we're out of the water. it's great for the heart ofc.

And decent point, but im not sure how much extra add/abduction your getting from swimming if your not doing breaststroke...and despite what you say gull lifting weights even just alittle will help with swimming, deep squats is good cardio too/lung/heart with a decent weight

I didn't even mention lifting weights.
And functional strength is very handy.

The funniest part is apparently he thinks lifting weights automatically makes you "look big".

lifting weights wont help me swim the way i swim

ive been a swimmer my entire life, i never forget the way my strokes work, i just need the arm/leg fitness to come back so i can keep doing them

endurance not strength

ive just never been this out of shape when returning to the pool

my point was that adducation and abduction don't happen much in the water but that they are mad emore difficult when they do happen--because the little muscles do more work than they do on land, esp when pulling bigger areas of the body around against greater resistance (water). i would say that squats count as cardio once you've amped up the intensity level during supersets; otherwise it's still going to be anaerobic, going beyond atp-cp system focus but not getting to aerobic glycolysis or fatty acid oxidation emphasis yet until rly going or as part of circuit training.

i agree. cardio > lifting

however some people like lifting and if done properly, can be a form of cardio

if you just do cardio such as biking or running without some form of strength/weight training you will lose muscle and strength before losing any type of weight/getting into shape

you can make basic improvements in strength and see some muscular hypertrophy from cardio work alone. weight loss from cardio begins on day 1, so you won't have time to lose muscle or strength.

however cardio is mainly for, dare i say, cardio improvements; and it's chief other functions are weight loss, muscular enudrance, reduction of high blood pressure and cholesterol, etc.. resistance training certainly improves the rate of these adaptations and provides additional health benefits, but spencer is interested in swimming to get in shape. i don't think he's preparing for the olympic squad.

posting here cuz gull is apparently the only other "nn weights" guy around

walking 1.5-2 miles a day until my knees dont hurt. fucking cartilage, it still gives out on me occasionally and i just drop to the ground. should see a dr about that one day so i can run in confidence of not ending up under the knife.

either way, down 10 pounds from walking daily over the last 4 weeks. and i quit smoking, so to lose 10 and not gain 10 is n1. might throw in some pushups and situps for kicks.
