Well Canaan is Seinen, meaning it will appeal more to adults.
Bakemonogatari is Supernatural and kind of random, it can appeal to anyone.

I don't know what popular ones you could compare it too because all if not most popular animes blow huge dick. (Just in my opinion)

but I like the logical aspect of Death Note hence why i suggested it.

Death note is good but the ending is kind of stale...and dissapointing.
Black lagoon is awesome you should definitely watch it

I don't read the manga, anime's just easier, Agreed death notes ending was pretty bad.

(samurai anime's are usually pretty n1, ie; rurouni kenshin was amazing when i was growing up)
I think I tried watching gantz but first 1-2 episodes didn't intrigue me any more so
