New Kap Bambino album called Devotion was pretty much what I expected. They don't focus on getting technical or fancy, it's just their usual hammering from start to finish apart from a few spacey songs (like The Lost). Still, I've usually found some songs that stand out from their albums but I didn't find any here. I hate to compare bands to each other, but they sound a lot like You Love Her Coz She's Dead and Crystal Castles on some songs. The album has a wide range of samples (everything from sleek french electro through dirty HAEZEResque electro to using incredibly cheesy in-your-face anthem synths) around the Kap Bambino core so I guess that could explain it.

6.5/10

Kap Bambino - Resistance Alpha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhBQvgW-jpw
The opening track, which was released last year on an EP, had me hoping for a bit deeper, spacey Kap Bambino album but I'm not really convinced this album is any progress from their earlier stuff.
I feel like this album was something between a bit deeper approach and pure energy. An example of said pure energy from Zero Life, Night Vision:

One of my favorite things ever

Downloading Miami Noize 3 (annual Boys Noize Rec compilation), was surprisingly easy to find. Listened some tracks through youtube, sounds good. Involving the usual Djedjotronic, Jan Driver, Bart B More collaboration and some of the new guys like Audionite, SCNTST and BS1.

What do you mean? Just click on a release and then one of the links in brackets, like [DF]. For example this:

1. The Birds (Original Mix) 6:38
2. The Sky Is Black feat. Robert Guthrie (Original Mix) 6:38
3. The Birds (Ellen Allien Remix) 6:57
4. The Birds (Matthew Dear Remix) 5:27

[UL] [DF] [RG]

Have to listen through that by the way, I love Telefon Tel Aviv - Immolate Yourself

Just realized today that Huoratron released his debut album called Cryptocracy few weeks ago and the release party is on 20th April, definitely would like to go if I can get money somewhere. I was really anticipating this album ever since I heard of his stuff a few years ago. The album is pure madness even by his standards, he is definitely the best Finnish producer right now imo. Some of the tracks are kinda weird but I'm pretty sure I'll grow to love those as well, I've only given it one listen so far. He has the weirdest bass lines and really knows how to make his drops ridiculously huge.

9.2/10

On an unrelated note, here's a few summerish tracks I've enjoyed these past few days.

I bet, I guess post-rock and post-metal reach new heights when played live.

Haven't posted in a while, listened to a few electronic releases this week:

Lone - Crystal Caverns 1991

First time I heard of Lone was on Miami Noize about a year ago, have been interested in his stuff ever since. Really, really fresh, can't wait for the album.

Lone - Crystal Caverns 1991
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO_Qm7s_mBY

Joakim - Labyrinth EP

Was debating if I should even download this but had to since it had a Lone remix in it. Joakim has some good tunes as well, but not as consistent as I would like.

Joakim - Labyrinth (Lone Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuBAiMQWtSc

Destructo - Technology EP

Some new guy(s) on BNR so I had to check them out. Really solid, especially the original mix of Technology. LA Funky on the other hand is more anthem-like and good in it's own way as well. Actually I've become quite addicted to this EP. Unfortunately Boys Noize has tightened their policy on their stuff so you can't even find the newer stuff on YouTube.

This is the man himself playing Destructo's Technology:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLBPHSifcOo

Here's a minute and a half previews of each track:
http://www.boysnoize.com/blog/bnrtrax014-d...y-out-april-9th

Siriusmo - Doctor Beak's Rantanplant

Really weird three tracks, don't know what to make of this. Obviously he can produce a variety of electronic music so it's no wonder some of his stuff is hit-or-miss. I always liked his funkier and lighter tracks where he used some weird, happy vocals. This release pretty much fell flat for me compared to Mosaik for example.

Siriusmo - Plastic Hips
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2dNbHJwapU

Here is one of my all-time favorites from him:

Siriusmo - Blaue Sonne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4r-Ponwcwg

Something from Mosaik:

Siriusmo - Goldene Kugel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12tfyBeGRh4
Somehow the vocals make sense even though I have no idea what they mean

Siriusmo - Einmal in der Woche Schreien

Feistodon is amazing, it's basically Feist covering one Mastodon song (Black Tongue) and Mastodon covering one Feist song (A Commotion). Not really a big Mastodon fan but their take on A Commotion is pretty good considering how multi-layered and orchestral the original song was. Definitely liking Feist's song more though.

Beach House - Bloom is a pretty decent album. I've been seeing this name a lot the past year or so but never really listened to them. Her voice is really interesting, like kind of from another era.
Took a while to start liking the voice though.

Beach House - Myth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuvWc3ToDHg

Also grabbed Ukkonen - Spatia from nodata. Always interested in listening to Finnish electronic music (Ukkonen means thunder) but I usually end up being disappointed. This is really bass-heavy and even somewhat psychedelic and spacy. A lot of reverb and simple melodies but it's definitely interesting. This guy is very underground so can't find any of his stuff on youtube. I can definitely hear Thomas Fehlmann influences.

Thomas Fehlmann - Wasser im Fluss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArAhFcHwLnE

Ólafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm - Stare is a must-listen for me. I don't know shit about classical music but Ólafur Arnalds has always worked for me. Eulogy for Evolution (Arnalds' LP) is a master piece and it's really interesting to listen through it in one sitting. I bet there's something in the Icelandic drinking water that makes them produce so soothing music. Or maybe it's just the landscape.

I think there is a documentary about Icelandic music on vimeo but I forgot the name. It has Ólafur and Jónsi and the likes if I remember correctly.

Ólafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm - a2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiEalUL8Fno

Housemeister - Music is Awesome Remixed is pretty much what I expected. Basically a few of his label mates and other common electro producers remixing some tracks from his 2012 Music is Awesome LP. The track that stands out for me is Zombie Nation's remix of Clarisse, mostly because Zombie Nation was one of the first producers that made me get into electronic music (he produced a lot more than Kernkraft, you know). His recent collaboration with Tiga and some of his new singles have been kind of boring for me, but I can definitely hear his older sound in this remix. If I had to give Zombie Nation a unique genre it would be sad or melancholic electro.

Housemeister - Clarisse (Zombie Nation Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI2Pa1B4mtw

And yet another Boys Noize release: Electric Rescue - Rave Strength, despite its name, is not really a party-starter. I know I probably shouldn't always compare releases to music produced by another producer but this sounds kind of like smoother Felix Cartal. On my defense it is kind of easy to compare unoriginal electronic music to similar unoriginal electronic music. Maybe I'm becoming more and more picky with my electronic music but this whole EP apart from Illogic is pretty predictable. 'Predictable' shouldn't be in my vocabulary when I'm talking about Boys Noize releases but there it is. Maybe the three other tracks will grow on me but I doubt it. Seems like Illogic is the only track worth mentioning here.

John Zorn - Nosferatu

Stumbled on this John Zorn guy on nodata because of the interesting looking cover and song titles
User Image

Quote
1 Desolate Landscape
2 Mina
3 The Battle of Good and Evil
4 Sinistera
5 Van Helsing
6 Fatal Sunrise
7 Hypnosis
8 Lucy
9 Nosferatu
10 The Stalking
11 The Undead
12 Death Ship
13 Jonathan Harker
14 Vampires at Large
15 Renfield
16 Stalker Dub

Judging by the names in the song titles this is a Dracula-themed album. It has a lot of beautiful songs along with songs that are creepy and straight-up horrifying (not horrible!) noise. Very interesting and working concept in my opinion. Definitely loving the lighter songs like Mina and Lucy. I don't know if anyone here listens to this kind of music but would appreciate recommendations of similar music.

John Zorn - Lucy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1OseRRIfr8

Elffor - Into the Dark Forest

I discovered this little album by just going from a song to another in youtube. Despite the very cliche name (especially in the BM circles), this album is unlike anything I've ever heard and in a good way. I don't know what you would categorize this as, dark medieval ambient? Haha I don't know. Very powerful nonetheless, the chants and primal howls break the ambiance but it's not really a bad thing in my opinion. Also would like recommendations of this kind of music, Summoning comes kind of close atmosphere-wise in my opinion.

Elffor - The Lonely Mountain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU5y6LkPekc

Fennesz - Black Sea

Apparently my post today is mostly about a bunch of weird but working albums. This album, especially the song Black Sea pretty much blew me away just because of the fact that it stops you from thinking and fills your head with beautiful landscape of sounds.

Fennesz - Black Sea
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6MFrYeCt_E

Animal Collective – Honeycomb / Gotham

AnCo comes up with two new songs just in time for summer. Forward-thinking and good as usual, liking Honeycomb a lot.

Animal Collective - Honeycomb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCK03Po10iE

Nothing else comes to mind really except for some new A-Trak single that was a total flop in my opinion.

Didn't particularly like AnCo for some reason, didnt appeal to me. Didnt really feel anything about John Zorn, was interesting.

I liked Fennesz, very tranquil, chill...

Elffor had better songs, listened to a few, might download them, but they are weird lol.

New Grimes version related from AnCo you might have heard it already, but its good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMyRgURjdjM&feature=related

sasquatch next weekend, wont remember a goddamn thing

D/L'd the Ab-Soul album, Illuminate is ridiculously good.

I have been seeing the name Thomas Köner a lot so I finally DL'd La Barca and Nuuk based on a few youtube tracks from those albums. Very soothing ambient, La Barca has a lot of distant field recorded vocals kind of in the background, while the soothing ambient sounds are more dominant. Interesting and very good for just relaxing, although some of the tracks have a rather dark vibe to them. Have yet to look deeper into Nuuk but as far as I can tell it's more about trying to put pure ambiance into sound waves. Loving this dude's stuff.

Other albums I've listened to lately:

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (it just suddenly struck me how awesome this is, must-have)
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Nina Kraviz - S/T (kind of interesting, Siberian hot chick makes deep house, have to give some more listens)
Sigur Ros - Valtari (just what I expected)
Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory (good but not AOTY candidate imo as many sources suggest)
Stendeck - Scintilla (kind of generic beats but the rhythmic noise makes this enjoyable)
Gridlock - Formless
Japandroids - Celebration Rock (nothing ground-breaking here)
Fang Island - S/T (feelsgoodman.jpg)
Gryphon - Red Queen to Gryphon Three (very medieval-sounding, recommended)
Kishi Bashi - 151a (good summer music, recommended, pretty high on my personal AOTY list)
Eluvium - Copia (beautiful, recommended)
The Goner - Bitemarks (Swedish folk, downloadable for free on their bandcamp)
Savant - Vario (again, one of the most inventive dubstep/complex electro producers as of now, definitely recommended)

Releases I'm going to listen to:

Spiritualized - Sweet Heart Sweet Light
The new Burzum album

im kinda surprised you are just now realizing how great loveless is

lately im just listening to a bunch of people i didn't get to see at sasquatch. making a point of listening to people my roommates didn't see at sasquatch, and they got to go

they missed bon iver, ted leo & the pharmacists, the walkmen, mogwai [canceled?], beck, beirut, the roots, santigold, st vincent + others

its been a lot of those

apparently they saw jack white/tenacious d/explosions in the sky/the shins & some smaller bands but missed SO SO SO many & instead tripped out just walking around & camping which is totally cool but fuck i had a ticket & so many people i wanted to see

I think I'm slowly developing a Swans addiction. Never really looked into the early heavier stuff but I might give those releases a shot as well. White Light is really great in my opinion, also my most listened Swans album. Now listening to Soundtracks for the Blind for maybe the third time, pretty hard to get a grip on it because the songs are very different compared to each other. Swans is definitely not always a pleasant listen but something just keeps me going back to them every now and then, lately very often as well. Maybe it's Gira's voice, the atmosphere or the fact that the music sounds so 'real'.

i've never really met anyone that can say they like every song on soundtracks for the blind, but usually their "favorite swans song" is on that album.

the sound is my favorite track on that release.

also, loveless is god tier.

Quick notes:
Dillon is interesting, reminds me of childish Lykke Li
Re-discovered CocoRosie, Good Friday is such a nice song
Le1f is one of the most interesting things I've heard in a while, you can get Dark York legally for free legally
Looking for Strip Steve - Micro Mega, BNR releases tend to disappear from the internet completely few days after the release date (don't have what.cd account or stuff like that)
New Twin Shadow album was pretty much as expected, still think Tyrant Destroyed is totally on another level compared to any other Twin Shadow song
Have to look more into the new Fennesz album, I think it was a soundtrack? So it's a bit different concept compared to Black Sea
New Julio Bashmore single called Au Seve is absolutely dope, this guy never stops amazing me
Vladislav Delay is a Finnish electronic producer, kind of interesting, slowly-developing stuff but definitely need to give the Espoo release a few more listens
Falls of Rauros is the best black metal I've heard in a while, recommending it to just about anyone

to be continued..

Conan is really massive, decided to check them out because of the album arts (see my avatar), glad I did

Conan - Krull

Kowloon Walled City is something I really don't listen to a lot but the guitar alone makes the music absolutely devastating

Kowloon Walled City - Clockwork

New Kölsch single is pretty good, reminds me of Zoo Brazil a bit

Kölsch feat. Troels Abrahamsen - All That Matters

After listening to Halfaxa a few times, I really started liking it, maybe even more than Visions, atleast it has more 'levels' to it. Just a bit harder to approach I guess.

Grimes - Devon

Going to the army tomorrow, will be there 6 to 12 months. Will probably have most weekends off but I'd appreciate it if you guys would keep me updated with must-have releases. I think you already know what kind of music I'm into.

i think yes but it's a different beast than what it was up until a few years ago thanks to the ever advancing global accessibility that the internet provides

it's a good thing, there's more & better music everywhere

related, there's more & shittier music everywhere you also have to search through, but the good things make it worth it imo

styles change, idk. don't necessarily look for old favorites making comebacks, look for music being created for the joy of it regardless ?
