Just noticed this, oops.
I'll assume that you've heard the more obvious bands for progressive metal with a lot of melody - Dream Theater, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Queensryche, Symphony X.
The styles that I know well that generally encompass what you're looking for - US power metal (heavier/faster traditional heavy metal), melodic death metal (most of this probably too raw), melodic black metal (all of this is probably too raw). I don't know stoner rock too well. I recommend listening to full albums, since most metal tends to be album-oriented. Let me know which of this you like and I can recommend more similar to it.
Fates Warning have an extensive catalog that spans progressive from power metal to spacey rock. It's tough to describe all of it concisely, but it's worth a listen to everything they have done. I would listen to the first three albums to start, since John Arch is one of my favorite singers.
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Fates_Warning/604Lethal's "Programmed" is really melodic progressive USPM. That's what I'm listening to right now and it fits what you're looking for perfectly (I think).

Savatage are a name you might have heard, possibly because of their connection with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Hall of the Mountain King is a classic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OhOm-1m3D8Shadow Gallery are one of the lesser known bands of progressive metal, partially because they didn't tour for the first 25 years of their existence. This song is a bit softer, but it has some really smooth vocal melodies.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHvWkhgNZnQAmorphis started out as a death/doom band but over 20 years they evolved into an alternative rock band. Tons of harmonies here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AkFMWMdmrUKatatonia have changed a lot over the years. Start with the song "Teargas" - go back in time for more metal (melodic death/doom), go forwards in time for depressive rock.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysBhVcW2tt0Sleep - a band that you probably already know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9IAvv32wEI'll go into a bit less detail on the extreme stuff, since I think that's what you mean by "raw".
Band - Album - Song
In Flames - The Jester Race - Wayfaerer (instrumental)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfkKTS-MJzY (this is my favorite album ever)
Dark Tranquillity - Haven - The Wonders At Your Feet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFEOelTOzkc (some of their less deathy stuff)
Eucharist - Mirrorworlds - The Eucharist (instrumental)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjbNrW6k1fw (this has ALL the harmonies)
At The Gates - Slaughter of ohe Soul - Slaughter Of The Soul
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJme5uubkyQ Sacrilege - The Fifth Season - Feed The Cold
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zEea7vI_P8 (getting more aggressive here)
Unanimated - Ancient God of Evil - Life Demise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY8lYl8cp_o (melodic black/death)
Dissection - some live album - Where Dead Angels Lie (live)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj8jLyb8x0w (melodic black/death)
Decameron - ...My Shadow - Le Roi Triste
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrouGivIZeI (melodic death metal with bits of 90s Metallica thrown in)
Sacramentum - Far Away From The Sun - Fog's Kiss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeNM0H0uaPY (this isn't even considered "raw" for black metal)
Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse - I Am The Black Wizards
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgQRRI9goFg (classic black metal)
Just for contrast, this type of stuff is what's considered "raw", so I'm not sure how far into extreme metal you draw the line of "raw". Lots of cool melody though.
Burzum - Filosofem - Dunkelheit
