book 5

random thought but we are all agreed that the new knight in the kingsguard who is "8 feet tall" is the mountains body brought back by qyburn right? since he was kicked out of the citadel for his experiments, just want to make sure we all are in agreement with that much

yes, absolutely

hes pretty much the only guy in the entire land who is that tall. people still think sandor is alive, but he's not close in height

yeah sounds about right... martin made it very clear that only the mountain was that rediculous. i would much rather it be sandor but i think it has to be gregor. don't know what this is going to mean for the kingsguard, but its def interesting that qyburn is able to ressurect...

sandor might still be alive on the quiet isle as a gravedigger

how is bran going to get back into the story? is his sole purpose just to educate the readers about the children of the forest? i feel like his talents should be used in the conflict at the end of the series

I think that bran is going to have a part in figuring out how the others were pushed back before, by becoming a greenseer and learning as much as he can to help jon/dany/aegon. He basically has the ability to learn anything and everything he wants and he will have a part. The children of the forest will obv have something of a role since they wouldnt just introduce a race and then ignore it the next 2 books, and coldhands.jpg

From page 258-259 Jon Game of Thrones

"sometimes I dream about it," he said. "I'm walking down this long empty hall. My voice echoes all around, but no one answers, so I walk faster, opening doors, shouting names, I don't even know who I'm looking for. Most nights it's my father, but sometimes irs Robb instead, or my little sister Arya, or my uncle." Thought of Benjen Stark saddened him; his uncle was still missing. The Old Bear had sent out rangers in search of him. Ser Jaremy Rykker had led two sweeps, and Quorin Halfhand had gone forth from the Shadow Tower, but they'd found nothing aside from a few blazes in the trees that his uncle had left to mark his way. In the stony highlands to the northwest, the marks stopped abruptly and all trace of Ben Stark vanished.
"Do you ever find anyone in your dream?" Sam asked.
Jon shook his head. "No one. The castle is always empty." He had never told anyone of the dream, and he did not understand why he was telling Sam now, yet somehow it felt good to talk of it. "Even the ravens are gone from the rookery, and the stables are full of bones. That always scares me, I start to run then, throwing doors open, climbing the tower three steps at a time, screaming for someone, for anyone. And then I find myself in front of the door to the crypts. It's black inside and I can see the steps spiralling down. Somehow I know I have to go own there, but I don't want to. I'm afraid of what might be waiting for me. The old Kings of Winter are down there sitting on their thrones with stone wolves at their feet and iron swords across their laps, but its not them im afraid of. I scream I am not a Stark, that this isn't my place, but it's no good, I have to go anyway, so I start down, felling the walls as I descend, with no torch to light the way. It gets darker and darker until I want to scream." He stopped, frowning, embarrassed. "That's when I always wake"

I think this goes hand in hand with Jon's future and gives a bit of a hint as to what lies in store for Jon in Winterfell.
Im just curious what is going to be under there, my most reasonable thought is lightbringer sword which emanates heat.
Which is the reason why Winter Fell ..
If Jon is really Azor Ahai Reborn... this will explain alot of things with Melissandre losing sight of Stannis and seeing only Jon.

From Wiki

Approximately eight thousand years before Aegon's Landing, in the midst of a great winter that lasted for years, a terrible darkness fell across Westeros and the east. The Long Night lasted a generation and laid waste to much of the world through famine and terror. In the midst of this darkness a race of apparent demons emerged from the uttermost north, wielding razor-thin swords of ice and raising the dead to fight the living. The children of the forest and their allies, the First Men, fought valiantly against them, but were driven southwards by their advance. The 'Others', as these demons were called, were eventually checked when it was discovered that weapons made of dragonglass (obsidian) could kill them. A great hero, who in the eastern tradition is known as Azor Ahai, led the war against the Others wielding his sword of fire, Lightbringer. Eventually the Others were driven back into the Lands of Always Winter. Brandon Stark, known as Bran the Builder, raised a great Wall of ice, gravel and magic, stretching one hundred leagues from the Gorge to the Shivering Sea to prevent the Others coming again. Brandon Stark was declared the First King in the North. The fortress of Winterfell (and possibly Storm's End in the south) was built at this time, and the Night's Watch founded to maintain a watch on the Wall. A later prophecy claimed that the Others would return and Azor Ahai, the Prince that was Promised, would be reborn to lead the fight against them.

Read an interesting theory today:

Robert Strong is irrefutably The Mountain That Rides, but it is in question if he has a head or not. The Dornish were satisfied with the structure of the sgull they received from Qyburn, so it may be that its gone. The theory I read is that the other unaccounted for head, Robb Stark's, might be mounted on the Mountain. Stark translates to strong in many languages, including English. This would give credence to the name Robert Strong. This would also give credit to the foreshadowing events of 1. During the duel of Oberyn vs. the Mountain Oberyn chips off some paint on his shield that reveals the two dogs. During the duel between Beric and the Hound, Beric cuts the head off of the dog high up on the shield. and 2. Grey Wind's head being mounted on Robb Stark's body. It was no secret that Joffrey wanted Robb Starks head, accounting for the probability it was moved to King's Landing.

She is revenge, she will probably kill Jaime... or let him go. Perhaps she will have something to do with Tommen's death, since that's like the only thing Jaime kind of cares about these days. I don't think Robert Strong will at all be influenced by either of the people he is built by, it's just one of those things that might be found out, might not. How it will get revealed, who knows.

sometimes i would awake bruised in the morning, having woke the dragon
but in the book, so far, so much more makes sense knowing that so many of these characters are 12, 13, 15 etc.

Spoilers ADWD, end book 5: Euron "Crow's Eye" was confirmed to be a vassal of Bloodraven "The three eyed crow." This is probably through warging, but basically he is controlled by Bloodraven. Everything makes so much more sense now on where motivations lie.

Also confirmed: Robb's will did name Jon Snow his heir

Jaqen was confirmed to be both the alchemist and Pate

Melisandre lied about the leeches killing the three kings, she was just trying to convince Stannis that Edric needed to be sacrificed.

Davos was confirmed to be heading to or already at Skaagos to find Rickon and Osha

Also confirmed was that it was Rhaegar's order that the 3 kingsguard protect Lyanna at the Tower of Joy. It was also confirmed that his last words were "Lyanna"

worst part about reading on the kindle is the lack of knowing just how much is left. like a real book you can see the end coming. im reading unnumbered chapters with no idea of my actual place in the story.

worst part about reading on the kindle is the lack of knowing just how much is left.  like a real book you can see the end coming.  im reading unnumbered chapters with no idea of my actual place in the story.

how far are you?

bran caught the lanisters in the tower. finished that chapter anyway.

if i wanted to check the table of contents i could ofc figure which chapter im on, but i point was more of a "kindle v books" comment since this is my first kindle book.

the ToC is a list of links, "chapter 1" that takes you to chapter 1. there are 72 chapter links, none with names and none of the chapters have numbers, only names. its odd.
and for the 4 book bundle, there are a total of 64372 pages. im on 1472 lol.

those are awesome statistics to have (not to mention the ability to search text im sure)
the regular books dont have any ToC, just some maps and an appendix of the lineage of the major houses

yea, its got all of that. i can search for definitions of words too, which is nice ofc! im a bit afraid to search for things in the book yet as i dont want spoilers. and the appendix has pages for all the houses, but again i dont want spoilers so ill check them out after. all in all i like the e-reader experience so far.
