what i dont like is that its supposed to be used only if they have a "public use" for it... not building fucking condos trying to raise the total income of the city or building a news paper building... that is one reason why America is stupid its not logical.

there should be some logic in this
a farmer who refuses to sell his land to the city when the only thing standing is a barn from the 20s should be forced to sell

that and what ben is saying that there definitely should be some standards for what actually helps the city

roads can be ok if they traffic situation is bad, but building condos seems to be not a great reason. if you want to build condos, have the company building the condos buy the houses for way overvalue, knock them down, then build. fuck that

well i've been looking at cases and shit there is an elderly couple that lives in Ohio(northern Ohio) they have been living there for 38 years. Why would they have to give up the house so condos can be put into the area to bring in more money for the city. The mayor of the city wanted to use eminent domain but fail'd and got voted out of office... she was a dumb bitch..

Then I was reading about NYC and The New York Times wanted a block in Times Square for a new HQ building and they won... thats just bullshit imo

they did something similar here
but it was needed, they took a complete shit section of town and built office complex/apartments upstairs, ywca, and something else i forget

it really depends on the area and whether they feel a cash infusion can help things out overall

but yes, some im sure have been moronic

i guess i should calm down about this... i really hate the government it doesn't really give a shit about people... why can't the city ask if the owners want to sell their property if not find it somewhere else. Everyone else negotiates for the shit they want, why can't the city?

eminent domain used to have its purposes, but nowadays it really isnt that practical anymore unless its a case of need a highway or bigger roads
