I actually just recently passed up an amazing offer on an 18 foot double-wide jon boat because I didn't exactly have the funds after buying my new truck.

The strip of the Susquehanna River that runs right beside my work is proclaimed to be one of thebest stretches of water in PA for smallmouth. Three miles north you can find people fist-fighting over favorite walleye spots.

There are a lot of nice boats for sale VERY cheap where I live, all the rich people taking a huge hit from the financial collapse are selling them off.

Rich people don't buy jon boats and that's what I need to run the river without any fear of tearing a hole in the hull. :P
However, I won't pass up the opportunity if they have a nitro or ranger sitting around that they want to sell for under 3 grand.

Not the same model, but a friend of mine has something very similar. I was previously considering getting a canoe to do some small water float trips for duck hunting. But god forbid if the beast wanted to go with it's a 99% chance we would tip it.

same with my wife...we would be wet before we got 20 ft from the launch

I have taken over a year to decide on the kayak from a canoe, jon boat , raft or kayak
it seemed like the best choice for my needs right now
jury is still out on what to get for family / 2 person overnight trips

yeah i will end up getting a jon boat for 2 main reasons
1. i can run her up and down the river much faster than a canoe without worrying about spillage/bottoming out
2. i am going to also use it for duck hunting on larger water and NN tipping something that has several thousands of dollars worth of gear in it
