The tl;dr version: I had a bad fireworks accident and got knocked out. One of the titanium salutes (the ones that just boom without color) got stuck in the gun and went off inside the gun 2-3 feet away from me. I got hit with shrapnel and either the impact to my helmet/chest or the percussion of the close explosion knocked me back about 5 feet. There is really no explanation for why it bypassed the lift charge and went right to detonation but it did and I'm super lucky to be alive with just burns.

I know, my parents are trying to bribe me with a check of a significant amount of money to stop now and not finish the year. It rained that day like a mother fucker so I knew the shells were not going to light as easy as they usually do. I lit it, but it hesitated like it was a dud...so instead of walking away to another rack, I walked right up to it to light one that was aside it. However, as I was starting to light the one aside it, boom and gn8.

When it went off, it knocked me far enough away that when the rest of the shells in the rack went off on the ground I was far enough away that I was only hit with some debri that burned me and no more up close percussion. At some point it also knocked my helmet off and shattered my facemask.

My best guess is that they took on too much rain. While they are designed to be partially waterproof, we got entirely too much rain too fast. I don't know why the lift charge never went but the shell most likely absorbed some of the water and that could be why.

In the 25 years the company has been in business this was the first time something like this happened.

I sent dan a pic of the remains of the rack. It was high density PVC pipe. Had it been the oldschool metal tubing all 3 of us probably would havebeen killed. But the hdpvc did exactly what it was suppose to if a shell ever went off. It basically turned almost inside out and looks like amushroom now. Had it been metal, it would have fragged like a huge pipe bomb.
