theres a metal train that a mile long and at the very back end a lightning bolt struck it, how long til it reaches and kills the driver, provided that he's a good conductor?

Speed of Light = 299,792,458 Meters/Second
1 Feet = 3.2808399 M
1 Mile = 5,280 Feet

Convert the Speed of Light into Feet/Second
299,792,458 Meters/Second * (3.2808399 Feet/1 Meter) = 983,571,057.9254742 Feet/Second

Divide the distance of the train by the time the light is traveling:
5,280 Feet / 983,571,057.9254742 Feet/Second = 5.3681937440660936297411070025927^10-6 or (.000005368 Seconds)

For some reason, I feel I have completed booched this up.

Lightning wouldn't travel a mile lengthwise on a train into a person, it would go through the shortest route through the train car, through the tracks/spikes and into the ground. The outside of a metal train car is a better conductor than the dude driving the train.

That wasn't given in the question, and I didn't want to play around with shit I've been so out of practice with. I just felt like doing something semi productive for my brain. I was aware of outside factors not being correct (100% conductivity, guessing at the speed of light for lightning, etc).

oh you guys

lets simplify

theres a metal train that a mile long and at the very back end a lightning bolt struck it, how long til it reaches and kills the driver, provided that he's a good conductor?

theres a metal train ... lightning bolt ... driver, ... good conductor?

... train ... driver, ... conductor?

... train ... conductor?

its a joke

I got the joke, it's on par with the terrible shit I am forced to listen to when my 9 year old sister wants to tell me a joke.

I wanted the mental exercise.
