Will I leave the house and get things done that need to be done?

School starts August 24th, I still haven't gone to fix why I can't register for classes online.

Still haven't driven to the unemployment office to fix why I'm not getting checks.

Do I really have no goals in life?

If you seriously think that a computer game cannot hinder productivity you are simply blinded by ignorance.

I'll agree that computer games can slow you down.

But I think being a lazy ass in general is more of a problem.

the computer game is a means to an end, whether that be procrastination or simply avoiding responsibility
and blaming anything but the person is a copout

its like kids today. instead of teaching kids we want to diagnose them with some fucking disorder and medicate them. parents wonder why the kids cant sit still for 5 minutes when we provide them with nothing but constant stimulation. kids cant even sit in a car for 30 minutes without needing the dvd playing for them.

There is a large difference in what you're talking about and what Scott is trying to say, there have been numerous scientific studies about how video games stimulate your brain and there are no differences to them than drugs.

Video game addiction is not a joke.

Was this sarcastic?

no, it was serious
all you faggots that think a computer game is to blame are lame
rhymes unintentional

If you seriously think that a computer game cannot hinder productivity you are simply blinded by ignorance.

I'll agree that computer games can slow you down.

But I think being a lazy ass in general is more of a problem.

Or it could be an addiction, and yes to a video game is a real possibility.

only in our pansy ass society would be let blame fall on addiction instead of responsibility, especially on something like video games.

You're so wrong on this subject it's not even funny.

no, sorry brah. this is about video games, not your alcoholic issue. not commenting on that past what weve talked about before.

IE - I am the classic case of an addictive personality (brain).

so am i, so what

I am addicted to ladder slasher. Which just speaks for itself.

its like kids today.  instead of teaching kids we want to diagnose them with some fucking disorder and medicate them.  parents wonder why the kids cant sit still for 5 minutes when we provide them with nothing but constant stimulation.  kids cant even sit in a car for 30 minutes without needing the dvd playing for them.

There is a large difference in what you're talking about and what Scott is trying to say, there have been numerous scientific studies about how video games stimulate your brain and there are no differences to them than drugs.

Video game addiction is not a joke.

shut up

So you think people can't be addicted to heroin?

Yeah, definitely. I'm assuming this is sarcastic.

If you've seen the people in a methodone clinic, there is a little more to it than weakness.

But can a game truly become an addiction? Absolutely, Young tells WebMD. “It’s a clinical impulse control disorder,” an addiction in the same sense as compulsive gambling.

In older addicts, compulsive gaming can jeopardize jobs or relationships. Howard, a 33-year-old project manager who asked to be identified only by his first name, started playing an online role-playing game about six months ago. He plays for three to four hours almost every day — more on weekends — occasionally putting off meals or sleep. His fiancée says he’s addicted.

Joe, tell me where there is a difference between Howard and yourself, besides the obvious of having a fiancée.

According to the Center for On-Line Addiction, warning signs for video game addiction include:

# Playing for increasing amounts of time
# Thinking about gaming during other activities
# Gaming to escape from real-life problems, anxiety, or depression
# Lying to friends and family to conceal gaming
# Feeling irritable when trying to cut down on gaming

I have checked off in bold those that apply to myself.

The only one that doesn't is because I feel great when I am not playing games. I feel like less of a loser.

In addition, video game addicts tend to become isolated, dropping out of their social networks and giving up other hobbies. “It’s about somebody who has completely withdrawn from other activities,” Young says. “One mother called me when her son dropped out of baseball. He used to love baseball, so that’s when she knew there was a problem.”

Howard, the project manager, says he still goes out with friends and family, so he doubts he is addicted. “I am not limiting myself to gaming as my only pastime or hobby,” he tells WebMD. “If I needed to stop playing, I'm convinced that I could.”

I've given up my social network, I rarely do anything, I haven't gone out in at least a month, I have no other hobbies (working out 2 weeks at a time and quitting doesn't cut it).

It seems Howard responds exactly like Joe would respond.

Young and Bakker say the overwhelming majority of video game addicts are males under 30. “It’s usually children with poor self-esteem and social problems,” Young tells WebMD. “They’re intelligent and imaginative but don’t have many friends at school.” She says a family history of addiction may also be a factor.

If you’re concerned your child may be addicted to video games don’t dismiss it as a phase, Young says. Keep good documents of the child’s gaming behavior, including:

I'm under 30, I have poor self-esteem, I have no friends here since they all left but the worse part is that I don't meet or make new ones, I am intelligent and have a family history of alcohol & drug addiction.

Because video game addicts can’t avoid computers, they have to learn to use them responsibly. Bakker says that means no gaming. As for limiting game time to an hour a day, he compares that to “an alcoholic saying he’s only going to drink beer.”

Bakker says the toughest part of treating video game addicts is that “it’s a little bit more difficult to show somebody they’re in trouble. Nobody’s ever been put in jail for being under the influence of [a game].”
The key, he says, is to show gamers they are powerless over their addiction, and then teach them “real-life excitement as opposed to online excitement."

ITT - You have absolutely no idea how addictions work or what you're talking about.

Nor are you willing to admit that for the last (however long it has been), you do nothing but go to work, come home & game.

You have missed meals over gaming, you have refused to sleep over gaming, yet you don't want to trust the words of medical health professionals that these are not normal behaviors and a sign to something.

Okay.

And you refuse to go out and ask girls you think like you on dates, don't ever talk about other hobbies besides gaming, etc.

Not trying to be an asshole, but I'm quite open with my lack of a life. You're just in the closet pal.
