Did you feel the need to have to explain yourself to the salesman about how you are a UNC fan and this was a painful purchase for you?

Actually I made it very clear that a little part of me was dying just by making the purchase
I also had to furiously wash my hands after touching the vile thing to rid myself of evil bluedeviljizz

So your not like one of those people who owns 43 rods and doesn't know how to use any of them are you? ;)

I got a friend into fishing and subsequently fly fishing. He got willed 2 rods and a month later had about 7. One for sure I know he had special ordered for $700 and the kid doesn't even know the basics about fly fishing.

I've been using the same "hand me down" Fenwick rod since I was 11. Since my grandfather just passed away my grandmother has offered me my grandfathers identical model which was hardly used. I'm actually thinking about making a glass case to display them in to show the years of abuse verse what it looked like new.

I think the fly rod the asshat had special ordered was a St. Croix or Loomis
Keep in mind he has only ever fished for stocked trout...

Both of those are St. Croix rods

This is my first one I have had that cost over $50 I usually just buy cheapo berkley rods and trash em after a year or so when I wear them out.
I have 4 rods.
the one above which is a medium action for throwing cracks/spinners
a medium light for throwing plastics
a 5'6 ultra light I use only for native trout
and a spare for the wife or use as a backup

never really tried fly fishing although I would like to one day

I like to think I can use them all pretty good ;)

Eh, I was only talking about fly rods.

My collection of spinning rods and bait casters is on the borderlines of being a sickness.

I have 2 ultra lights that I use exclusively for trout and 2 that are ultra light/light for the wife/friends

for bass:
A baitcaster dedicated just for jig and pig
a baitcaster dedicated just for crank and one for spinning
a spinning reel setup for small jigs and tubes
and 2x junk spinning setups for catfish

I have at least 6 that are inactive but go along "just incase"

The wife may be getting me a decent fly rod setup for xmas due to the fact that I complain constantly about all of the fly fishing only trophy trout creeks within 20 mins of the house. Only problem will be that my learning curve is gonna be huge as these are small very tight streams :(

and Joe thats why I never have more than 4-5 rods at a time, wading I take 1 rod, in the kayak I have 2, 3 tops nn having a bunch of em sitting around that never get used.

you must fish out of a boat quite a bit to carry that many rods?

Find a place wide open to pratice at before you get in close quarters. Or a lake that you can wade out in would be ideal until you are comfortable.

Eh I'm guilty of always taking too many rods. But that's what storange compartmets and rod holders in the boat are for. When I'm walking far I only take one but always have the fly rod in the truck.

Pretty much 90% of my fishing in the past 2 years has been in the boat.

Both of my catfish rods are ugly sticks. They have been closed in vehicle doors more times than I care to remember. They survive until you crush one of the eye holes.
