I usually don't anymore. It leads to me... making bad choices. Plus what i'm on doesn't go well with it.... ahhhhhhh fuck it t onight I felt like doing it.

When I drink anymore, I think of the nurse who was on duty when my Mom died. We're facebook friends, and it turns out she's almost a clone of me...but younger and in girl form....GAH

All jokes aside I would have to agree with gull on this one. I can say with 95% certainty that anyone of the so called alcoholic losers could stop drinking if they wanted to for extended periods of time. Its just really sometimes there is nothing else to do

Runs in my family. Was getting bad last year...so now I drink only on rare occasion, if that.

Runs in mine too, I have had my ups and downs but have never gotten to the point where an intervention or anything of the sort

you are not the victim when you are an addict, you are the culprit. it is in fact the individuals fault. it bothers me that society feels comfortable by just giving things a name, and that somehow a name removes a portion of the responsibility. to that i disagree.

Often times, you can both be the culprit and the victim. Yes, growing up in a household where drinking non-stop and dealing with abuse all the time does remove part of the responsibility....yes being genetically predisposed to having an addictive personality DOES remove some responsibility.

I'm not saying these things can't be overcome. They can. I'm saying it's not like you just snap your fingers and you're ok. I also think that something can, and should be done for many of these people who suffer from things like this. Does the government need to step in? Perhaps not...the Government does too much already (Except where NASA is concerned, but that's another debate). However something can and should be done here. Whether you want to recognize this as a disease or not doesn't stop it from being one, anymore than it would heart disease, cancer, depression etc.

i just want to remove it as an excuse, not to discredit it altogether. my dad was a drunk, quit cold turkey. i was a stoner for years, quit cold turkey (have since smoked twice over 5 years). just quit smoking cold turkey. its not that i dont understand what it is, how its hereditary (nature/nurture w/e). i do, however, think that everyone only needs themselves to overcome it. but thats just me, i understand that.

last night i had a party at my house and of the 9 of us that actually drank we killed 2 cases of keystone (60 beers)
