I have a friend that grows...like when I say grows I mean fucking grows plants of biblical proportions.
So I've reached out to him and asked if I could borrow his skills in growing herbs to make my hops more successful.
(if you were clearly aware, hops and cannabis are cousins)

Anyway, this guy is a hippy like real love and nurture the earth kind of hippy that is a genious at growing plants indoors. Well me asking him about growing hops turned into this covert operation that is a perfect form of cover for him protecting the other shit he got growing.

So in conversation last night, I inquired as to his system for making these plants grow abnormally large and really fast.
He uses (obviously) abnormal amounts of lighting, time controlled watering and a food mixture that is the same base chemical structure as fertilizer/manure. Now I know I'm proelbay missing some critical detail here but phosphorus was mentioned an I need to inquire.
What is the possible negative effects here with using phosphorus into a plant that is ultimately going to be used for human consumption.

Ok quick breakdown here:
phosphorus added to soil
hop roots soak up phosphorus and send it up the vines
vines grow with leaves and flowers
flowers grow oil sacks (much like pine cones) called lupulin
lupulin = liquid gold in the beer industry
lupulin is the preservative and bittering agent in beer
will lupulin grown in this abnormal manner be any different from natural?

Phosphorus is an essential macromineral for plants, which is studied extensively in edaphology in order to understand plant uptake from soil systems. In ecological terms, phosphorus is often a limiting factor in many environments; i.e. the availability of phosphorus governs the rate of growth of many organisms. In ecosystems an excess of phosphorus can be problematic, especially in aquatic systems, see eutrophication and algal blooms.

phosphorus is quite non-toxic, i wouldnt worry about it. if it gets the hops to grow, and u eat the hops, i see no problems. phosphorus high hops is still hops
