I was making fun of someone on the internet, but you would only understand making fun of pictures of others, clearly pooping pics of yourself.

See what you might clearly understand (since most of what I've personally witnessed occurred on vent, and you're never on vent) is that multiple methods have been used to approach Nick, INCLUDING the one you proposed. None of them have proven to be effective. If you've ever been around different kids of people, then you should have noticed that constantly being around someone negative gets, at first, demoralizing and eventually just plain frustrating. Eventually, people grow tired of hearing the same bullshit overrrrr and oveeeeeer and over again. So eventually, you give up on trying to help the depressed and simply stop listening to their rant or push them away from your entourage.
