I've been thinking about trying some for a while, but i want the real experience
If some of the greatest writers of our time were absinthe heads, i'm interested to see what it's all about

Anyway, if anyone has had experience ordering absinthe from abroad, has suggestions for a reliable site, or has tried and can recommend a good brand - please help a brotha out

No matter the quality, place of origin or price you pay, you will clearly see the green fairy.

PS it was legalized this year for sale in the states and premium stores have bottles at prices of $45 and up.

You want the best experience?

Get a kit, it comes with a grated spoon that you hover over your glass with a cube of sugar. You slowly pour a tablespoon of water or drip water over the sugar cube an into the glass filled with your elixir.

Be warned that the big ingediant that makes absinthe so popular is wormwood. Wormwood is the most bitter thing I have ever experienced in my life. 48 pounds of the highest alpha acidic hop can't hold a candle to the bitterness of a pinch of wormwood

I've had 3 different kinds and honestly they are clearly tasty...I think the people you are reffering to as historical influences of writing and such were fucked up to begin with and absinthe was an afterthought/excuse

Bottom line is, no matter how much you listen to other people, you need to get out there and form your own opinion.

If I buy a bottle will that be enough to lure you into a DC meetup?

in other news... i found an interesting artical basically stating that no law has changed, that absinthe companies are just removing the Thujone (the good stuff) from the wormwood in the distillation process and marketing the product as traditional absinthe, but it actually lacks the hallucination juice

When I went to Rome they had a store with like 60 different types of absinthe. Pretty sure they were real deal. Problem was the cheapest bottle was like 40 euros so I'm like fuck that. I had some of the american shit. Tasted clearly bad to me but didn't do shit.

i tried it before, and i also tried versinthe. nothing amazing happened but i got pretty drunk after some absinthe and versinthe parties. my housem8 and i used to bring like half the bar home with us and everyone would try it out b/c they thought it was a big deal. imo it tasted like shit though.
