And quit shoving opinions in where historical fact suffices.

are you denying that a republican in abe's day is nothing like republicans of today, when infact it was the party that was more on the left side of the fence? ill say left cuz apparently you just want to argue.

I'm clearly "saying" anything. I brought up a historical fact, and you chose to add your own interpretation into it, like you do with EVERYTHING.
Simply saying republican policies have changed over the last 150 years would have sufficed, but instead you chose to label him as a Progressive.

I mean, techincally I could do that as well, and say JFK was a Republican. He wasn't, but the policies he enacted back then would be more in line with what is considered a modern Republican thinking. However fact still remains he was a Democrat.

clearly that Democrat or Republican mean shit anymore, and you know that.

are you denying freeing slaves was clearly a progressive view in the 1860s?
and ill let slide you little quips cuz its all you had for ammo to try to divert the fact that a republican in the 1860s would clearly be a republican today, the party is exactly the opposite and this "view" as you seem to think it is is supported by fact.

so i reiterate do you think freeing slaves was clearly a progressive view? feel free to clearly answer and just leave the toilet knowing you cant refute this.

Progressive in the common sense and what it means in the political sense are two different things Joe.

IF you take Progressive to only mean "moving forward" then yes, he was.

Most of what Lincoln did was simply him being pragmatic at that time in history.

Yeah Vogan, I know.

It's a bit baiting by me anyways, since Joe seems to cling to the notion that I'm a die hard conservative.

Or he'll claim I don't care about anything if I'm a libertarian.

now your view of what is progressive is a subject of opinion, while lincoln being progressive in the eyes of his peers is clearly really up for debate. i mean, civil war? assassination?

you did clearly refute, only solidify.

Actually, my "view" was based on the dictionary definition of "progressive". Either way, missing the point. I stated something that was clearly up for interpretation, you did, which is what I called you on, and you turned it into this...well, whatever you want to call it.

libertarians enjoy the luxury of being able to say everyone is dumb, listen to me! but they will never win anything until we have a revolution due to the ever increasing disparity of wealth.

Me: Venus has a surface temperature hot enough to melt lead.
Joe: Venus is pretty, I think it's the prettiest planet ever.
Me: Why can't you stick to facts?
Joe: <DEBATE MODE ENGAGED>
Me: Fuck, I did it again.

abe lincoln being progressive is clearly up for debate. im sorry you dont understand the climate he lived in. the republican party clearly being anything like todays republican party is clearly up for debate. im sorry you make a narrow claim that you refuse to expand upon.

There is no such thing as a "throw away" comment when Joe is on patrol.
