Ridiculously busy at work, still understaffed, plus other nonsense problems coming from middle/upper management (i.e. send the first communications about new programs after they have started and been advertised for a while and we have been :donno: ing)

Our department manager, the only full-time person in the department, has been out long-term after having a stroke a few months ago. He was in good health other than being a smoker, more energetic and in better shape than anyone else I have met in their 50s. Despite only having five part-timers left on staff for two departments (one works 2 days, one works 3 days), we haven't been given any payroll credit for someone else to cover those 40+ hours per week, so we have basically been fucked. We knew he wasn't doing too well when he spent weeks in intensive care and two months in the hospital, but he moved to a rehabilitation home and we heard that he was doing well (though his family didn't want any visitors). Today we got the news that both of his legs had to be amputated, terrible news to end the day.

I thought about it for a second, laughed about it, then felt sad because he was the nicest, coolest, most laid-back dude there and I miss working with him.
