Apparently my town's solid waste recycling facility doesn't recycle books as mixed paper or in any other way. I checked with local charities, and they only accept children's books. I have a ton of books to get rid of - a set of 1990s encyclopedias that sat in a broken car's trunk for over a year and were slightly chewed by mice, and various other books that nobody would ever want to read (y2k panic book, new age health bullshit).
I have a dilemma.
I can burn roughly one gallon of gas (~$4) to drive 15 minutes each way to the town dump, pay $5 to dispose of solid waste, and then throw them into a crusher where they will be baled and hauled off to an incinerator and burned professionally.
Alternately, I have a fire pit and I can burn them myself and get the satisfaction of getting junk out of my house. I could even burn a gallon of gas that way if I really wanted to.
What should I do?

what kind of books? why clearly just donate them somewhere that could possibly use them? somewhere closer than your recycling facility, which by the way, recycling is totally faggy.
