Right headlight is easy to change, takes a few minutes, everything comes right out.

Left headlight has almost no room to access, is only accessible from the back, which is wedged against the coolant reservoir and air intake. There's no fucking way this could be how it is designed to work, even if the owners manual says so. I checked online, and sure enough, tons of people have problems with the lack of room. By the time I get those parts out, it's dark outside, so I ask my mom to hold a flashlight for me. She points out that the headlight assembly is pushed back an inch or two from an accident before we owned the car, and I realized that because of this, I can't change the headlight. The clip on the back of the fixture is blocked so I can't get it off, and it's too dark to see everything.

Tomorrow I have to figure out if it is possible to do this without also doing body work, damnit. On the upside, I'm too tall to drive the other car so I don't need to pick up my brother at the train later, and m8s are cool enough to change plans to accomodate.

Rather than unclipping the clip, you just detach it where it is supposed to be permanently anchored. Everything else isn't actually anchored in, its just wedged so tight that you can't move it. Why didn't I think of that?
