WTF is an image like that supposed to tell me? I always see protiens/DNA shit represented in images like that but I have no idea how to interpret a bunch of colorful squiggles.

Its just the backbone tertiary protein structure, like Spencer said,spirals are helices and arrows a beta sheets. Just look at the overall structure to study the protein I.e. binding sites etc.
