the crucial m4 is good, processor everyone seems to be going 2500k, clearly 2400k. AS rock makes good motherboards too as far as ive read, for the price range of 200 bucks you can get a killer mobo. the rosewill hive series 750w psu is supposedly the best out there, and is cheaper. case is fine, all about preference really. That cpu cooler is the most bang for your buck out there, but if you up your price limit on that there a lot better coolers out there. Your memory is good for ocing, but if you plan to overclock the samsungs are very popular and low voltage. other than these minor tweaks looks like a great gaming rig.

i think its better to get a 180 dollar GPU and replace it as needed instead of a 500-600 dollar one that will last 2 years longer

obligatory link to a .jsp toilet

memnoch's build is exactly like what you have, with the upgrades i mentioned (third poop down). his is 800-900 bucks but you still need to add monitor, gpu, and Windows so that kicks it into the 1300 dollar range depending on what you get

edit: nevermind, his comes with windows, so you can spend that 100 bucks on the crucial m4 in addition to the 500gb seagate or whatever HDD you want

i'm no computer wizard or anything
but don't you need a processor without integrated graphics if you're planning on using a video card? that's what i always thought

if youre paying 210 for a motherboard, you should find a z77 instead of p67

that case has no 2.5" bays, you will need a mounting bracket for your ssd unless it comes with one

clearly getting a plastic case, but i didnt notice the lack of 2.5" bay, ty
want an asus mobo
i honestly just skppped the z77s as i just figured "new = overpriced" but some are clearly too shabby pricewise now that i look.
why should i go caviar blue over black? (im clearly opposed to it but again, the difference in price seemed negligible ($15)
i dont need a 6g/s but its clearly much more, i dont see much incentive to clearly get it?
why is your cooler master better over the corsair 650w?
its clearly that i dont want i7 but i also didnt want to cheapen everything else just to get a chip that i wont be fully utilizing

i know i didnt have cables, i was sticking to parts

shalst try to find a decent z77

i7-2600 right now is only 60 dollars more than the i5-2500k on newegg
since you are assembling yourself, consider the cpu cooler/case/power supply all being the same brand to reduce the chance the case is a bad fit
if you want asus motherboard, go to the processor and scroll through the bundle deals until you find a processor and motherboard combo
the only difference between the caviar blue in my build and the caviar black you picked, besides the blue being 25 dollars cheaper, is the blue having a 16mb cache to the blacks 32mb, and that means very little, if you want to spend the extra 25 dollars, it would be better spent someplace else in the build (see: i7 vs i5)

things that changed:
psu - thats a better psu than what i had before (based on random reviews ofc)
ram - thats better ram than i had before (better latency)
gfx card - different brand (xfs instead of asus), it was cheaper and quality is the same based on all searches
mobo - i dont need a z77
case - w/e i dont care i can change that later

explain "shittier" or why you think so

even that last newegg build had 55 dollars mail in rebates, so its 1250+tax

theres a few things on there that need tweaked though

i saved over 100 bucks from first list (free windows), and basically everything is money off sticker price. i honestly cant see why i would need i7 and brand new mobo for my gaming style. im clearly opposed to it but i cant think of any reason why i need to. is there any game you can think of that i couldnt play on high settings and clearly be pleased with from this build? tomshardware reviews seem to show that i7 is clearly really all that much better performing than an i5, and z68 and z77 are essentially the same.

original plan was to fit a computer build into $1000, then i tacked on the monitor. i managed to do that with this build.

what needs tweeking john, be specific (without getting offbrand items)
outside of wanting the caviar black every component is the cheapest in its class that i can find.
i feel like i probably improved my build and saved 100 bucks.
