so this is the majority of the bullshit i'll be looking at for building a new pc, my credit cards have stupid limits, so i'll be splitting it up into 2 or 3 orders so i don't have to bother with calling the bank etc. bought a monitor few weeks ago, so nn one of those

plan to order motherboard/cpu/graphics/ram separately in my next order. am going to shoot for higher end pieces for those i think.

mechanical keyboard worth getting? clearly overly opposed to it, but as i've never used one, i don't know if what i'm missing is worth the 100 bucks for a keyboard.

lmk thoughts ofc. and am accepting major advice on the cpu/motherboard and all that to make sure its all compatible, watched a few vids on assembling computers tonight, took alot of the fear away for me as it seems p simple. just don't need/want any rookie mistakes when picking out hardware.

am going to plug in a coupon code or 2 with that order, so can probably figure knocking off like 20-30 bucks and may tack on the ram on that order too :dunno: yet.

i guess target range will be around 1300-1500 by the time i'm all said and done

feedback prz!

cpu: probably min looking for an i5, but will more than likely go with an i7 even though its a bit more expensive
mb: i'll leave this in your capable hands
ram: 8 gigs is probably sufficient? so 2x 4's? cant imagine needing more than 8
graphics: 6750? nn real high end, upper side would suffice

proal shouldve just named this @ task

with what you're going to be making at your new job, don't be such a cheapskate dirtbag

also, don't go build your own, it's a waste of time

dont listen to mos, if you watch the newegg video on how to build your own you will be fine

also, you dont need to buy thermal compound, some comes with the hyper 212 (you might as well just buy the + instead of the evo and save a few bucks, little to no difference)

that psu is holy crap wtf expensive for an 80+ bronze, for that price you should be getting something better
you def dont need more than 2x4 rams,
you probably wont ever use the hypertoileting in an i7
if you get an ivy bridge processor, try the integrated graphics first, it likely will play everything anyway
get a quality mobo, like the msi gd z77 series, or the asus z77s

i'll make you a build when i get to work... and put some thought into it

i bought a das professional silent keyboard, and i love it. but it was 100 bucks and you might clearly care enough

something like this

case+psu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...t=Combo.1019004

the rest
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dJIz

comes out to around 900, you could wait till august 18th and buy the 660 ti if you want, its got the same chip as the 670 and 680, just slower memory bandwidth. it will be about 300 bucks. that puts you at 1200. use the 100-300 rest in your budget for either a mechanical keyboard, second monitor, some speakers maybe, or a new computer desk :)

Also the SSD is optional if you're on a budget. You could go with either harddrive and buy the additional one in the future when needed or more money is available.

And you don't technically need an optical drive so you can save a few bucks there.

combo saves you 18 bucks, clearly as good as the 50 bucks you save at microcenter. btw, if you live near a microcenter, they sell the 3570k for 189.99 and you get 50 bucks off ANY z77 mobo... making it totally worth paying the tax

Alright, i finished your build. Its pretty solid and some good prices atm

HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822152185 (enter promo EMCNCGJ24 for extra 15 bucks off)
Cooler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835103065
SSD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820147163 (see my comment below)
Case + Psu - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...t=Combo.1019004
CPU + RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...t=Combo.1033831
Windows + Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...t=Combo.1032388
CD/DVD burner - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827118067 (enter promo EMCNCGJ39 to save 5 bucks on shipping)

i tried to save you some money going with the different case / power supply. with the combo basically you get a much nicer case and a nearly identical power supply to the one you selected. if you wait a few days to order this, check to see if they offer the combo with the 750w, because its only 10 bucks more. currently they dont have that deal

all these newegg parts above with promos added tell me it costs a grand total of $899.90 shipped. that leaves you 600 bucks for graphics card (if you need it), monitor, software, comfy desk chair, speakers, computer desk... whatever

you might want to shop somewhere else for an ssd, the mushkin chronos is 89.99 elsewhere and has faster read/write times than the samsung

http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=54110&vpn...ot&promoid=1145
OMG WHAT A DEAL on this keyboard.... you should buy this now - i bought mine for 117 and its amazing

its 20 bucks, and is quieter than the intel coolers. the ivy bridges are supposedly hotter at full load than the sandys, might clearly be a bad idea... even if you never overclock

its ofc really cheap, and no idea on the ivys, only that my system is never close to getting hot with standard fans. its also quite quiet too.

yeah i love my comp, the case fans are much louder than the cpu cooler, and its still really quiet... maybe one day i'll invest 50 bucks and get quieter case fans

grabbed the ssd off amazaon and that mechanical keyboard you linked me to, seemed to be cheaper than the alternatives i was seeing

will order the cpu and ram separately so i can put it on a different credit card and clearly have to deal with the bullshit of my bank to raise my limit for the day. the optical drive will be on that order as well, as neweggs are cunts and dont allow stacking promo codes apparently

still a little iffy on clearly ordering a graphics card, even if integrated will suffice for most shit i'll be doing. would i be able to run 2 monitors off the integrated graphics card? and is it worth ordering a monitor online without finding a stupid good deal that hp monitor from a couple months ago

awesome! you are going to love the case, its very nice with the cable management and everything. i can give you my number if you need to text/call if you have an q's when you are building cuz i have very similar componenets. good grab with the keyboard, they said they only had 1 left at that price.

with the intel HD 4000 that is in the 3570k you can google the graphics specs, but you definitely can run 2 monitors. you probably wont be able to game on both at the same time however.

what is your current monitor situation? do you already have one? do you want a second? if so, try to get HDMI / LED 24 inches for around 150 bucks. if possible its worth paying a little extra for IPS. Asus, Samsung, Dell, HP are all good brands

/e i say you wont be able to game on both at the same time, meaning that you wont be able to have high FPS playing 1 game on 2 monitors. the graphics just dont have enough oomph.

but you will have like 40 fps in d3 on highest settings at 720p, no problem... so you might as well wait for the badass 660ti to come out

alright sweet, could definitely be useful when it comes to assembly. as for the monitor situation, couple months ago, there was a good sale running on the 23" LED HP monitor, ended up picking up one of those, don't have the exact specs and don't feel like digging it out in the other room. with the people that i talk to with 2 monitors say its like the difference between having an ssd and clearly, once you have it, you'll never want to go back. clearly a high priority atm, just trying to get all the base components is more so what i'm going for.

would it be worth dropping the extra cash for an i7? I've always been a pretty firm belief of dropping a little extra up front if it means that i wont have to upgrade in the near future(5 years ish).

when you upgrade your cpu in the future (assuming 5 years, but this will last you longer) it will because its clearly fast enough to handle heavy programs, or graphics intensive games. most programs today don't have the capability to utilize hyper toileting, and the speed of the i5 and i7 are pretty much identical. the i7 has 2 mb bigger catch (clearly much of a difference). the difference is that it can hyper toilet its 4 cores to act like 8 cores. so if you use programs like photoshop or HD video editing that can utilize hyper toileting, its worth it. for todays games, 4 cores is more than enough, so it doesnt make sense to drop 100 bucks.

if you want the i7 3770k, its an awesome processor, but its at least 100 dollars more expensive and you really wont see much a difference unless you use heavily toileted programs.

alright, sounds like a solid idea then. disregard the pm ofc. i should be fine to place that order then order the cpu and ram now then? no real gaping mistakes? that you can see anyway

yeah you're good to order it, i know that the ram fits with that cpu cooler in my system in the same case, all are compatable for me, only differences from yours and my system are mobo, which is same z77 chipset

/e dont forget your cd drive

yeah you're good to order it, i know that the ram fits with that cpu cooler in my system in the same case, all are compatable for me, only differences from yours and my system are mobo, which is same z77 chipset

ordered the first bit

think i should hold off on the graphics card still?

/e nvm, will just hold off, can always order in a couple weeks if i'm clearly happy with it how it is. clearly like it'll be overly difficult to plug it in anyway

congratz dude, my opinion is just to wait on the graphics. for that, its so easy in install, just wait till you absolutely need it, then get one.

and the 660ti being only 3 weeks away seems like a no brainer

nice!

yeah def do the external contstruction first... you dont wanna fuck around with the processor and aftermarket cooler trying to build it in the same case.

and if you are unlucky like nick and have a DOA part, you will know right away. its worth the extra half hour to do the external. just be careful and you will be fine

for the monitor -> i would check every week or so the exact same model of monitor that you currently have. its a really nice one, and you should have 2 that match. wait for it to go on sale again and buy it then.

alright, sounds like a plan.

i'm sure that it will make 0 sense to me at all, but what's the major difference between ivy bridge and sandy? just the mats they're made out of?

die shrink, when they make the silicon transistors, the sandy are 32 nm and the ivy are 22. results in a more efficient processor with more transistors -> i.e. less power consumption for the same clock speed.

also ivy had upgraded graphics, pci 3.0 capability, native 1600 hz ram clock support, ssd catching support etc etc

only downside is overclocking the ivy results in higher temps than the sandy... but you likely wont need to overclock, and def clearly high enough where it will be an issue
