my mouse randomly stops and starts, akin to being unplugged/plugged in. ive checked the cord and there does clearly seem to be a short, aka i cant reproduce the problem. i have tried all of my usb ports, they do it.
google searches say its the mobo. anyone have any insight?

last 2 times I have had issues with usb ports were
#1 mobo completely died 2 days later
#2 all usb died/were glitchy for a few weeks and became a pain in the ass so had to get new mobo
backup your stuff and grab a new mobo, try it out with different mice?

i figured it would be the mobo
i tried switching all components with others, and swapping all usb drives
no internal cords seemed to be messed up, and i couldnt recreate any of the outages. was/is random.
going to buy new mobo ton8, send this one in for evaluation i guess. maybe i can sell as referb then...

more google searches reveal 3 possible fixes, which i will try one at a time:
update bios (just did this)
desable AI suite
uninstall/reinstall usb drivers
there is zero agreement on any of these, but each apparently helped at least one person
/last ditch effort to clearly buy new mobo yet

status update
bought mobo, problem persists
reformat, problem persists
buy new mouse, problem fixed
so my mouse, which had no short that you could reproduce, was somehow causing all usb ports to crash
put original mobo back in, reformat, use new mouse, all is well
thanks

yea, tell me about it
now my mouse was years old, but it was a logitec g5. all i can figure is there was actually something in the mouse, on the board or something, causing it.
either way i now have a logitec g500 (modern day g5).

Replace mouse.
Everything works.
