P90x...while it sounds interesting to possibly try I will stick with lifting instead...

I dont think I could bring myself to do it just because I make fun of my one friend who does like 5 minutes of it and says its a workout

upd8

have been working on the vertical on my net at home. i practice on a 9'2" rim most of the time. basically i'm a good two foot jumper so i'm using the lower height to try to work on my one foot takeoff. i can dunk of a two foot pivot better than off one foot on a run, so i'm trying to make it so that's not the case asap.

will be hitting weights a fair bit before my season starts.

have been playing some hoops lately
haven't dunked or jumped over marcus (baby)

at 9'1" rim:
however i dunked over caden
tried to dunk over sister-in-law but gave her a black eye instead (by mistake ofc) because she ducked into it and one of my hands caught her eye. tbh i lol'd but felt bad

have been able to get good height on 10' lately, can't wait for Strength shoes

these (ignore the shitty ads all around the shoe images): http://www.strength-shoes.com/
i know they really only work calves but they work (know this from experience). basically they just help teach the fast twitch muscles to respond and they tell some of the slow fibres to get recruited. they add to explosive strength but the name of the shoes itself is a crapshoot. they add quickness. as for actual strength i'll need to do squats, etc. and for a more genuine explosion i'll need to get back into plyometrics. i'll actually wear the shoes for some movements.

my legs are naturally strong but i want to squat about 450-500 lbs and then not push it further. i can do 350 pretty easily now for reps. i made a little progress since i started doing squats on and off a few months ago. what i want is a combination of (core/leg but esp the posterior chain) strength, agility, and quickness, as well as explosive strength. i don't really need to increase my squat at this point to dunk, but i should keep going until i plateau. reason being that more strength is better than less strength, ofc. but the big trick with vertical leaping is getting the muscles used to reacting quickly and powerfully. sprints are an ideal workout for vertical leap, as long as you're doing a few plyometric exercises as well as skipping. together they give decent athletes everything they need. but squats and using vertical leap shoes help bring you places you can't go otherwise.

have had str shoes for a while now, tested them out today
felt p good

have been using exercise bike, doing bench presses, bicep curls, not a lot else
need to get going with leg stuff b/c the bike is good for speed and endurance, but it's not amazing for power

these guys are fast (top dog cardio) and some of them can jump. most aren't tall.
but they play out of control so that's where i get to clean up and get some good defensive practice.
so far both weeks i've played with these guys i've wound up bleeding at the end.
p sure these sunday run arounds will help my thursday games by giving me some solid 5-on-5 runs

not bad tips
i have a few books that deal with the subject of power (ofc) but the basics are always the same. deadlifts, squats, agility drills, plyometrics, sprints, squats, jumping, skipping, core training ... basically doing a variety of intense exercises for the posterior chain is the big idea. some guides forget about different stuff (be it timing, base strength, balance, agility). the link you gave is too general about the plyo side of thing sbut i like that it includes some stuff that relates to timing, and that it's sport-specific (and even task-specific).

today's workout included stuff with bands, some jogging, some bounding (working on the "penultimate" step), leg presses (something like 10 sets of 10 reps @ 400 lbs), calf raises with 400 lbs of resistance (not much tbh, but it was made harder because it's recumbent so you're actually working against the weight in addition to your own body weight) ... and some other stuff including some bench presses and back rows.
