well have no fear, 18 year macallan is usually the most expensive your average booze store has. look around for the 1k bottle of the 25 year. expensive as fuck.

I drink top shelf single malt whiskey mostly, ardbeg, glenfiddich 30, now and then i do JW Blue label or Jamesons though.
Lately i have been using soap stone blocks called "On the rocks" to chill my drinks, they are pretty awesome.

more evidence as to why I dont understand this scotch nonsense:
local store has the following macallan

10 year - $44.99 (750ml)
10 year fine oak - $44.99 (750ml)
15 year - $94.99 (750ml)
12 year - $51.99 sale price down from 56.99 (750ml)
12 year - $119.99 (1750ml)
18 year - $189.99 sale price down from $199.99 (750ml)
20 year - $200.39 (750ml)
17 year - $188.49 (750ml)
"86 proof" - $314.29 (750ml)
10 year single malt cask finished - $91.99 (750ml)
M decanter 89 proof - $5,240.79 (750ml)

i bolded that last line because all those prices are basically MSRP except that one. Wonder why good old PA state liquor board decided to upcharge this by $500. I guess because if you have that much money to blow, whats another 5 benji's gonna matter?

Old Chub nitro cans tonight. It's a pretty good beer regularly and a very good beer on tap which I had a bad experience with, when during a delay during a five-course beer dinner, I was assigned a full extra pitcher of it. Mix that with three hours of Gubna, G'Knight, and TenFidy, and it's too much... but this stuff is awesome in nitro cans. Found four packs of pints for $8.99.

After this, a bit of rye whiskey - Old Overholt. Simple, plenty of grain taste, and clearly much wood. I like scotch too, but I generally don't find older scotch to be that much better. It's more of an essence of the flavors that mix with the spirit, but it also loses its effect faster. Glenlivet 25 is like that - intensely spicy, but it loses its edge before you're done sipping an ounce and a half of it. It's interesting when the different aged varieties are done in different casks and otherwise change the drink quite a bit, but I'm pretty satisfied without buying the most expensive bottle in the store.

I see it condensing actually. I don't believe the current growth is sustainable long term (obviously). This will translate into some bigger players pushing little guys out completely or to the point where they are only competing on the local level. I also believe that some of these start up breweries that are clearly producing great beer will be had out as beer education across the country continues to progress.

TL:DR Breweries will become similar to the restaurant industry with plenty of openings and closing as used equipment should be available.

+1 to that statement
This past year within a 2 hour radius of me 6-8 places have opened or are in the finalizing stages of opening and 2 have already closed up shop after less than a year of operations.

However, what continues to amaze me is that some places create mediocre to bad beer and are booming/expanding. The craft beer scene is becoming a trendy gimmic. It seemingly doesnt even matter if you create a quality product so long as you market the fuck out of yourself and are located in a good spot.

what will the beer scene look like in 5 years

Oh I completely agree. There are a few breweries in the area that are that way IMO. That is why I see it condensing though. so many people are so new to beer with flavor that they think all of what is produced is good when really it is just the cool factor of craft beer. I liken it to when I started homebrewing and anything I made or other made was awesome. Now I can objectively look back and while what I was drinking was decent it was in no way "good".

drinking a 2011 adam from the wood
its fantastic. the smoke/wood is so nicely mild, but yet still available. this beer has aged amazingly. if only hotd wasnt a terrible brewery for quality control :(
