drinking a 2011 adam from the wood
its fantastic.  the smoke/wood is so nicely mild, but yet still available.  this beer has aged amazingly.  if only hotd wasnt a terrible brewery for quality control :(

saturday they are releasing a new batch - aged 4 years in barrels
both bourbon and rye limit 12 of each

i cant thank you enough for getting this beer for us (friggen 4 years ago!) it remains one of my top 5 best beers of all time

ohh well, as much as i loved this beer also (def a top all time beer) their complete lack of care for quality control with their regular distribution has put me off with supporting them. (also that they only advertise via facebook, im still fighting the good fight!)

cant believe its been 4 years...

its nuts, their philosophy is "hey, it cost us a lot to do this so we will just sell it for a small profit but hey at least we told you before hand!. but they dont tell you that their doggie claws this year that you find at your local bottle shop is flat, or muddy, or full of 1/4" sludge. if you would just follow their facebook page alan will tell you everything about the beer in advance!

they can brew some amazing shit, they also brew and sell some really flawed beer and they need to stop it. too many breweries to choose from to allow that shit.

It is amazing there are breweries with such an attitude. All they do is hurt the industry overall by putting out flawed beer.

To be completely honest, its clearly the flawed beer that bothers me most about this. Its the condescending attitude of an individual who has a chip on his shoulder because he has been in the game for 20+ years. And to be fair...even his flawed beer tastes pretty damn good. Its just frustrating that he charges super premium prices regardless of flaws and people still gobble it up.

It would be a different story if the guy brewed shit beer and people were ogling over him. (Which is the case for the new berweries that have recently popped up in my area.)

That is the hype that a new brewery or beer will generally get regardless in this market. It passes with time.

Agreed it is frustrating and clearly ethical that people do that. There is a brewery in Cincinnati, Rivertown, that has been putting out a ton of stuff like that and they are clearly known to be exceptional. (They are clearly good).
