cubs actually have some talent, having not seen them play much im shocked. and if they really can put something together they still have a shot. the cards are not good enough to run away with this if we dont let em.

Lul. Reds will win the division.

Every team goes through a rough patch. and 4-6 in your last ten isn't the end of the world.

How's things looking for your Cubs again? Oh wait, 10 games under .500.

I'm sorry Joe. I would like to see the Cubs win it all before we all die.

Bigger holes have been climbed out of later in the season. But don't think this is the year for miracles.

As for the Reds, their bats have been solid all year, and with Volquez back, that's like trading for a number 1 pitcher, without giving anything up.

It'll be a dogfight the entire way, but I have the Reds coming out on top.

Also: really tired of hearing how great Colorado is. If I hear one more ESPN pundit tell me they're wining the series this year I'm going to kick a kitten.

The cubs are old and overpaid

Reds wont win it without some better production from the bullpen and Rolen staying healthy

Bullpen issues do worry me.

Rolen is apparently just sick right now, not injured. I think he'll be fine for the home stretch.

Lou needs to retire. He doesn't care anymore and it's painfully obvious.

lou wants to win in chicago (the ego is a powerful thing)
one more year because he knows this team is good enough to win any short series (providing we can get a fucking closer). but this is the cubs, and the mental factor is huge.

Gotta at least have a winning record before you start thinking about winning playoff series.

He just looks so damned bored and grumpy anymore. I don't think he still has it.

there is something about cubs fans, which is the most immediate problem with the cubs, the fans, the city. wrigley is so fucking awesome, the bleachers is the #1 best spot for a party at 1:30 on a saturday afternoon that the stadium sometimes distracts. and because the faithful will love you no matter what a complacency sometimes takes over in the city. "just another year" mentality instead of a general outrage that the team is not great. its not easy to temper the love for a team and the fuck you attitude fans need when they are not good.

the tribune is the worst thing to ever happen.

ramirez was on a tear before the break. like i said they dug themselves a hole. but if you cant recognize the talent the cubs do have i dont know what to say. 32 does not equal over the hill. i would even say that 32 is the tail end of your traditional "prime".

Yes tail end and declining, and Lee is 35. Soto is having a nice bounce back year after a horrible 09. Sorriano is also getting up there in age.

34, while "old" does not mean end of career. in fact many are better at this point. in fact, id much rather everyone underestimate. once a player is 34 they should be cut.

I never said it was an end to a career but it is past the prime years for most players sans a roided out Bonds and Jamie Moyer

you started with them being old, then it was the "core" is old. then its "look how bad those 2 guys have been dong". then its past their prime.

fact is there is no way to know and age is just some random stat people put on things and later can say either they were savvy or old.

when I talk about a team being old i look at the main parts of the team. guys that carry the team or are meant to. the young guys for the cubs are good and possibly future all stars but they are not right now.

all of this has nothing to do with the current talent level the cubs have. they are probably the biggest underachieving team of the year.

why, you havnt. unless you consider 33.34 old (average age of the big 3). lee is 34, dont know where you get 35 from. you trying to assume the cubs troubles are from age is ridiculous. but its one of those things that cant be countered unless you use the others to contribute to average age. but then they arnt core so you have constructed a hollow yet unbeatable stance that states "those three guys are old".

i can also say the reds are young if i just ignore like half the team

just look at their numbers this year and explain to me why their numbers are so drastically down for an entire half of a season. BABAIP? nope those numbers are pretty much in line with league average. that is just not a slump, so i either assume decline due to age or unknown injury.

the reds are young in a couple spots (CF and RF) Ocab looks 50 and playing that way, Rolen needs a bionic back, Razor barely has any hair left, Phillips is directly in his prime. so other than Bruce, Stubbs, and Hannagin each player that starts consistently for the Reds has at least 3-4 years of mlb service time.

all you are saying is 3 guys = the cubs are old. its ridiculous. and lol more fancy stats that are a creation of some dude over the last 10 years. they sound cool but mean next to nothing.

if you cant admit what ramirez and lee mean to the cubs, and how each of them hitting about 200 is not a slump then :donno:. if, in 5 years, neither has ever recovered, then we can claim age and their career is over. but until then im gonna go with slump. im sure you will refute this.
