all you are saying is 3 guys = the cubs are old.  its ridiculous.  and lol more fancy stats that are a creation of some dude over the last 10 years.  they sound cool but mean next to nothing.

if you cant admit what ramirez and lee mean to the cubs, and how each of them hitting about 200 is not a slump then :donno:.  if, in 5 years, neither has ever recovered, then we can claim age and their career is over.  but until then im gonna go with slump.  im sure you will refute this.

How is that a fucking fancy stat or are you just trolling?

I just love making any post that includes lolcubs. Hating on the cubs is the only accepted bullying that exists. Can't miss out on it.

be hip and try to use any obscure stat in the hops it helps your argument even though it has no bearing
not to mention the stat you used is primarily used to track aberrations, so it does not even apply

It is not obscure, it essentially quantifies luck and could explain why a particular player is not putting up the numbers they are used to. As long as the player has a consistent line drive percentage he will have a BABIP of around 300, which means that 3 of every time the player hits the ball it goes for a hit. Sometimes a player will just end up hitting balls right at guys consistently and not finding holes so therefore their BABIP would be lower than league average but 99% of the time it will normalize over the course of the season. Some guys like Ichiro have a higher BABIP dude to his excellent speed getting infield hits.

tl;dr

it is a useful stat which explains the old adage of "luck" or "finding holes" to which without it you make a baseless argument about luck

the stat removes homeruns but adds in sac flys. makes no sense in calculating a players "luck" as you call it (which is a load of garbage).
still does not change the fact its just finding another new age stat that tells you when a person is behaving abnormally. unless they are ofc abnormal in talent (or lack there of). which is what i said.

and you were the one who brought it out talking about luck (i guess thats what you were alluding to). all i said was lee and rameriz were in early season slumps and you said they were old.

i can find anything i want in stats given enough obscure stats that no one ever needed in gauging players before the last 25 years (aka the computer generation). still does not make every stat valid.

these stats can be good tools, but they are not some end all be all indicator you keep trying to make them out to be. in fact they are more obscure than the time tested stats weve been reading on the back of cards since we could read.

they are not but i have watched nearly every game they have played vs the reds and both players have just looked plain not the same
yes they reds pitching is better, but that is not the sole reason. players of their caliber do not just slump for an entire half of a season without something else contributing

btw the rbi is one of the worst stats ever, it is so team dependent and shows absolutely nothing about a players particular skill level.

I don't think you can call these sabermetrics all that obscure now. Sure they won't be on the back of baseball cards anytime soon, but most baseball fans are paying attention to them now.

The most important stats in the game is BA and Runs. I think we can all agree on that.
