drinking 2 scotches ton8

http://www.whisky.com/brands/dalwhinnie_brand.html

vs

http://www.whiskeywise.com/famous-grouse-whisky.html

the dalwhinnie is better. there's no comparison. i'll finish the dalwhinnie sometime, but i'm going to toss the famous grouse. i have an unopened bottle of lagavulin so that will make up for the grouse. clearly sure if anyone else here is into scotch, but if you like famous grouse, you like bad scotch.

I have clearly drank a ton of different scotches to weigh in on my personal thoughts on these particular brands but I do enjoy it from time to time paired with a fine cigar. Honestly I am more of a fan of bourbon than scotch though. i guess that is the "homer" inside me picking american made verse the scotties

i hate dark liquor like any whiskey, cognac, bourbon etc, it makes me puke even when i consume only few shots
i also hate wine, it gives me headache

oh fuck it, it will be easier to say what i can/love to drink: beer, unflavored vodka and tequila

the stupidity of shots and fine liquor makes my head hurt
/end toilet shit

speaking of which, have you ever picked up any of my beer suggestions?

ty sir

this sums up my thinking process for ton8: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jsUAo6wFGk

i haven't tried a ton of different scotches, but i try to keep 2 or 3 in my cabinet at all times. i need to start buying smaller bottles for testing b/c a p bad scotch can still run @ $25-100. with beer i can buy single bottles at $1.50-25 for a full range of bad and good for testing.

@ adam: i did try a few beers i found in the various beer topics on DC. normally i just go to the store (stores here are mainly gov't owned) and order stuff or pick out a half dozen or dozen bottles. ordering is more hit-and-miss b/c then i need to commit to a case, good or bad.

clearly going to stay sober enough to type properly in the next hour or so, so i'm going to give up typing for a bit now

good to hear
I should have specified my ordering comment to be directed at vogan. He specifically asked me to pick out some brews from a list that was available to him.

back. chucked out the grouse. will wait until new year's to open the lagavulin unless i'm somehow working early on jan 1st.

the dalwhinnie is decent. i wouldn't say it's amazing but it's good imo. so i will keep working on it until new year's. i may pick something else up soon, too. probably a small bottle for testing purposes.

i'm pumped about it but i'd like to beef up my collection. i don't usually keep top dog scotch but i'm starting to get into it enough to warrant the move. i tried a few brands in university (@ bars) and my dad used to let me try the stuff he'd drink. i think he was hoping to put me off balance during chess games ...

trouble is, i don't drink heavily. so i should get into trying to order small bottles, which will be hard considering that manufacturers only want to sell small bottles @ point of sale. so i'll be wasting hundreds to build a collection if i go that route. will stick to keeping 3 or 4 bottles and tip-toeing through them (and unfortunately throwing out anything unpalatable, which is a huge waste of alcohol and money). i will pray to find something under $50-60 that i love.
