Lessons learned:

If you see anything with "druj" in the name, you probably shouldn't go through the level unless you can keep a wall between you and it until you're one square away.
If you see gravity hounds, stay away from them, they're killable but ridiculously unpredictable and they do a ton of damage randomly.
If a level has a dangerous feeling, don't do it unless you have every resist + really high AC + tons of healing potions + tons of emergency teleports

I used a scroll of deep descent to escape from a bad battle on the previous level, but with that level feeling I have to give it my best shot. I had a potion of enlightenment, and I used my rod of detection to determine that the big evil thing that is going to kill me is encased within these walls. I don't have the supplies that I would like, but I do have boots that can phase door away and a few scrolls of phase door. There was originally nowhere to run, so I dug a tunnel around the room from the other side of the level so I can escape and rest when needed. I managed to find a potion of speed that should help a lot, and I can do a bit of ranged combat if needed. I don't have immunity to blindness, so I'm probably going to get fucked by that, but I can escape by activating my boots, and if that doesn't get me far enough away, I can drink a potion to restore sight then read a scroll.

I recommend backing up your save files periodically because learning takes forever if you need to play through everything that you have already done just to find out one thing. Helped me figure out strategy without making it too tedious. I haven't died yet on this run through, but it is really useful to be able to actually look at what killed you rather than just seeing that you were killed by some monster (offscreen). Using this strategy to figure out what kills me from offscreen as well as what attacks I need to be able to resist from offscreen really helped.

Just hit level 49, I'm on floor 64 and I haven't died yet. Last death at a high level was mostly being careless and not having healing potions. Saved up all the good ones for the later levels, but I try to use emergency teleports and heal up normally so I have those for 80+.

This current floor is ridiculous, there's a unique dreadlord that summoned F60+F72+F80 uniques, plus a room full of eye drujs and skull drujs that keep summoning archlichs, demilichs, dracolichs, and other scary things. I have a bunch of potions though so I'll probably pull of 48-50 in one floor, plus there are tons and tons of drops.

Nearly every creature on this floor drains life levels, every single combat round I get drained, down to only one potion, though I do have an item that can restore XP every 375 turns.

20-30k each, squelched all the lower ones and I don't really need gold now so I'll probably squelch them too. Picked those up for an extra ~100k gold after that floor. 111 other items to choose from.



If you don't have these resists by around these levels and when you're done, take the up stairs instead of down until you find the items. It's pretty difficult to actively farm items, you just kill shit and everything is random. Stick around until you get the second half of the level feeling about the floor items (^F to see it), if either one suggests there might be something decent, run through. Weaker feeling on earlier levels mostly, but its basically just running through and going up instead of down if your gear is weak. To check your resists through a cryptic menu, press C -> h (once you get used to it, it's easy to use)

Resists you need:
1000': Free Action, See Invisible
1250': Basic four Resistances
1900': Maxxed Stats, Confusion Resistance, Blindness Resistance
2000': Poison Resistance
2500': Hold Life
2700': Chaos Resistance, Nether Resistance
3000': Permanent and Temporary Speed of +20 or greater
4000': Permanent + Temporary Speed of +30 or greater
4950': As much as you can get. Sustains, Speed, every resistance

Look at the details for uniques and other things, if they breathe fire/ice/poison, quaff a potion before fighting (though resist poison potions are harder to come by). Generally you can find a unique that covers a lot of them easily. If you don't have nether resistance by floor 50ish, you will get one hit killed by nether bolts.

Level 89, survived two high level uniques with the help of 15 healing potions.

Going through a massive pile of treasure after clearing out a room of dragons. Got at least four potions of experience. I have 15m XP

The Emperor Qulythug summons Greater Demons, which summon Greater/Lesser demons, which summon great wyrms, which summon ancient dragons. 20,000,000+ XP and 2,000,000+ gold, still haven't found an armor that's even close to decent.

Going back and forth on 95-97 to find better items. Utilizing The Cloak "Colannon" for its unlimited escape teleports. Managing to stay alive with +37 speed from items and a rod of speed that makes it +47 total. Still getting hit for 1000+ by monsters that are allegedly low level.

Monster created a trap, fell through the trap door to F99. Might as well go for it now.

Backing up my save file because if I'm fighting the boss of the game I sure as hell want to know what I did wrong if I die. 24 potions of *healing*, 9 potions of life, six charges on a staff of healing, bunch of scrolls of recharging, all the resists, tons of other potions.
