Ample free time for reading (so I stop drinking so much). I'm hoping to be able to read through at least 2 books a month, 4 would be sweet.

Purchased:
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk
Slapstick by Kurt Vonnegut
The Stand by Stephen King
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
* The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins

[edit] italics mean that i have already read it
[edit2] * means that i am currently reading it

To Purchase:
The Dark Tower 1-7
The Game of Thrones 1-5
The Hunger Games Trilogy
Fight Club
?

"Woe is me" and "boo fucking hoo" are 2 titles you should also look into.

You're the easiest out of anyone on this website to provoke into something.

Congratulations.

Also, I have read both of those already.

dark tower series + game of thrones should keep you for a few months.

fyi i would read the stand before ANY other newer King books due to all the recurring elements dealing with it.

another couple of good ones are the talisman and black house.

but if you are just lonely get a dog
if not i suggest looking into the titles Adam mentioned

I've read lots of Stephen King books already. The Dome, the one about the cell phones, others. Always wanted to read The Stand.

I really wish I had a documented list of all the books that I read over the course of my life.

My cousin's husband has it, but his mom and dad are reading it right now. I'll give it a go later when it's returned.

I like books, not sure why. I was given money to get a Kindle/Nook for Christmas, couldn't make my mind up so I don't have either.

I was pretty shocked when I saw some of the more popular books are only about 50% of the actual book cost itself, while there is all sorts of cannon fodder for $1.

I still may end up getting one, I need to buy my way into happiness again.

[edit] I guess I could read books on my phone. :donno:

but i do agree that the physical book is really nice. i think for certain things i will buy a nice hardcover (like the last WoT book for example), but otherwise im fine with the kindle. i really enjoy using it, and it feels like i read quicker on the kindle, i dont know why. maybe because i can change the font size. i really like that i can use the setting with black background, white letters. its easier on my eyes

The Stand has just been finished. It was a version released with more pages that were cut out of the original, 1439 in total in this edition (small paperback, small font).

I felt throughout the first 1000 pages or so, that the story was building up to such a crescendo, that there couldn't possibly be enough story in the last 400 pages to give it a proper ending. However, around 1200 pages in, I decided to buy a 6 pack and some cigarettes (I haven't really drank or smoked much at all in the past 10 days), to treat myself to the ending. Some turn of events occurred that gave me such a strong emotional connection to one of the main characters and the ending, that everything started to fall into place. I think perhaps part of the huge suspense was the actual length of time it took me to read this book.

Highly recommended.

I will be starting Slapstick by Kurt Vonnegut shortly.

Dan recommended me the novels by Preston and Child, specifically the Pendergast novels.

Love them for quick easy reads that you can put down for a bit and not worry about being lost when you get back to it.

Currently reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I feel like arming myself with some very good Atheism related material to argue with dad about Jehova when I go home in May.

As you can figure from the book, Dawkins is not an atheist. :P I realize he 'sometimes' quotes himself to be an atheist however when you watch some of his better debates you'll realize he knows that 'atheist' is a extremely bad description. Infact being a definition atheist is as bad as being a fundamentalist theist. Most 'atheists' including Dawkins are better defined by Agnosticism Atheism.

tl;dr cool story bro.
