book 1 question
so jon is on the wall, he just gets back from taking his vows and mormont tells him of the raven. the one where robert is dead and ned is a traitor. one passage in the chapter is :
"the girls do not even have that much, he thought. their wolves might have kept them save, but lady is dead and nymeria's lost, they're all alone."

how did jon know about that. they went south on the kings highway at the same time jon went north to the wall. am i to assume that they, ned and jon, have been trading raven messages? if yes, that seems to go against the whole concept of taking the black. leaving it all behind, you are not your previous life. on a day to day basis you are a nights watchman. i can see ravens bringing news about the king dying, various lords and current events. but the general family happenings seem out of place.

i dont get it. is it the magic, the connection of family and wolf that dreams lead you to just know things?

also, same chapter. when jon goes to mormonts room to save him from the living corpse. why the fuck is mormont sleeping naked? its the fucking arctic. you dont sleep naked.

either he had an off page wolf dream or ned sent a raven from KL or robb sent a raven from winterfell

either way it seems like a mistake

on vent you were once talking about someones chapters that you hated/dreaded to read. it was before i even saw the show so names meant nothing. who was it?

never noticed the no kings angle, but yea
and i figured the name would resonate but cat was not what i was expecting. interesting. so far the only chapters i really dont like are sansa, but thats because i dont relate to a whiny 13 year old whos going to wed the king.

in book 2 and book 3 catelyn gets a lot more whiny
sansa has a moment in her arc towards the end of book 3 that makes you really like her (i dont want to spoil anything though)

well based on the show they just chose an annoying actor, but he suits the character. nearly end of book 1 some maybe ill start to like him in 2.

im sure this has been said multiple times, but it seems that every scene in the movie is basically a chapter. ill sit down to read for an hour and realize that i just read about 3 minutes of an episode.
and i had hoped to be through book 3 by 3/31, maybe not

ive been doing about a chapter a day over the last few weeks, need to up that to too chapters if i have any hope of being caught up by 3/31

book 2 is good for your attention to detail because the show is almost entirely different while accomplishing some of the same things.

most of the events happen, but with all the wrong people

ive certainly thought that many times, how they have taken aspects out of order (not plot destroying obv) or combined things. the one that really stood out was arya being "saved" by tywin from the interrogator to be put into his service. that shit didnt happen at all.

im starting to think jon snow and his adventures north of the wall will play out differently, though im sure the end result is the same. things were already different when they were at crasters.

i think you are starting to catch on to GRRM

basically nothing with arya at harrenhall is the same as the show, other than the names of the 3 (presumably, im not finished yet)?

I thought the names were different, she doesnt name the tickler or amory lorch in the books

i just got to where she names weese. im guessing they substituted weese for the tickler since they each portrayed abusiveness. but its so different makes you wonder if GRRM rethought stuff, how to make certain things more concise and direct to the plot, or if its 100% an effort to condense books to episodes

grrm didnt make those decisions
all creative control on the show goes to d&d, grrm just writes 1 episode per season and thats it

thought he was co-executive producer, which is a totally ambiguous title and i have no idea what that exactly means since its apparently different for every show.
i realize i could just assume its just because its his story, but i just figured you dont sign grrm on and he has no say whatsoever.

according to wiki its just benioff and weiss that took the liberty of rearranging/changing things. wonder how much say grrm gets anyway, i mean he is still involved.
