discovered plastics and nuclear fission from 2 free techs from rationalism, hubble space telescope done in 2 turns which gives 2 free great scientists, and i almost have enough faith to purchase a great scientist

i guess i should make 3 academies which should set me up for the long haul into science victory, since i dont have any pressing needs for using the scientists to discover something

she took a 5th, and its one of the citystates that are directly on my border, shouldnt be a problem because my military units are more advanced than hers, but definitely ais have the power to stream shittons of units out of nowhere to the frontlines

high-economy rome is so good, soon as you learn a tech that grants a new building, use gold to purch in capital, then all your cities instantly get free production to build the new building too

Ah maybe it just ended then.

There was England, Mongolia, China, Egypt, the Middle East (whomever gets Mecca)

I spend almost all of the BC time up until 1070 fending off Chinese and Egyptian invasion. Then built up a huge arsenal, took China down to one city, reversed course and halved Eygpt to get at Hanoi. Course by that point Hanoi ws giving me units so no longer wanted to take them. Took out the rest of Eygypt off my continent (they had another city on the other continent). After being friendly with the Arab nation most of the game they started being dicks so wiped them out. At that point my science trees were sort of lacking, though I was the only unit with any air support. A lot of resource management issues and at the end I think I just had too many cities to deal with (kept annexing)

I did love how they'd be getting their asses handed to them and when they would want to surrender they still wanted consessions from me.

real impressive to get that far on your first game though, there is so many intricacies to civ that you learn more every game you play, im still getting way better every game because theres more you are attentive to

playing some huge 12/24 earth immortal rome
have restarted 6 times so far after being 5 turns or less short of g library

overrated, i found success with expanding and teching to whatever will allow me to harvest the 1-2 luxuries i need to stay happy while expanding

i can expand, tech, and feel very efficient
and then 1 civ decides to DOW and their wave of military units are infinite

terrain is a huge deal

I have achieved both science and domination victories at this point.

Latest game wanted a culture vic.

I find old faithful, found a city near it but one square off from it being in my 2nd city.

City-State expands to get it first.

So I spend 1000 years attacking them until I get it.

Mongolia then says hey, let's attack the Turks. I do most of the fighting, Turks give me 3 cities to bugger off.

Then Greece, Russia, Mongolia, and India all tell me to fuck off and go to war with me. Germany just keeps insulting me.

I keep taking cities and expanding because the assholes won't make peace.

Finally Russia and Greece are like "my bad".

Mongolia continues to be but raped, and Ghandi, after spending every unit it had to invade a shitty state I almost wished they would take, gives up too once I connect my nation to it.

Yeah, no culture vic coming here.

I don't know opitmal paths and the like to go yet, but at least I have the mechanics down. Not trying any super hard difficulties yet.

optimal victory type is mostly influenced by your civ, your enemies civs, map size and type, and number of opponents. not so much in-game happenings (well yes, but the in-game happenings are forseen by the game conditions once you understand them)

thats why i think multiplayer and team games are more interesting, is that its not such a clear-cut strategy that you have to play by, and its more about adapting
