because they dont date their bottles im left to assume that hopslam is nn. 90 min >, along with other local diap/iipa's are much better

Hopslam I think comes out in February every year. So long as you are aware of the previous years batch # you can tell whether or clearly it was fresh. clearly sure if bells has an easy reference to the brew/bottle date without contacting them. Regardless when you are in a store looking to make a quick purchase it is a shame they don't make the freshness readily available.

I have never had a bad bells prodcut (other than their pale ale but that just sucked in general). quality is always top notch

It is like a schell of what they "usually have or would like to have." The abbey bar is about 20% accurate with their bottle list of Belgian beer. I asked them why would they advertise beer they never served there and don't have. I was told it is what they intend to have. Idiots

Basically drinking 2 beers tonight that are the exact same brew except 1 of them has the worlds most exotic/expensive coffee bean in it.

I'm debating getting a bunch of coffee flavored stouts out and doing a blind tasting to see if I can pick it out or choose it as my favorite. I want to see if it really makes a difference and is legit or if it is a gimmick

I have no fucking clue what it means. Ideally, if there is a problem with the entire batch, you will want to store it in your fridge that way it will slow down the problem. (Lacto the bad yeast which seems to be the culprit here has a really hard time developing at temperatures under 50 degrees.) I was going to drink a bottle tonight and now almost feel like I have to try one tomorrow.

I am anxious to see how Deschutes responds to this if it ends up being a widespread problem.

dan, let adam be the test dummy () as he at least has more than one to test. i dont know which is which but i can tell you that the abyss came from 2 different shipments. one in portland (adams) and one in salem (yourse). and it seems to be a small sample size thats bad.

ie if its bad its noticeable by now, so waiting means nothing.

I'll be cracking a bottle tonight, I want to see for myself.

in a strange way the sourness adds to the complexity of this beast of a beer... i have had big stouts and barleywines that were purposely soured over the course of 3-4 years to dry them out but i donno about this one since it was clearly intended

it is amazing how even with the sourness it still has a ton of other flavors

Either this beer has totally destroyed my face and sense of taste or the sourness dissolves as the beer warms. I would say I am about 1/4 of the way through the bomber and all I am tasting now is dark stout goodness.

Will this infectious beer turn anyone into a zombie? If so, I would like for this version of the apocalypse to occur, as it is probably the only scenario that I believe I can survive on earth at this point.

I got up and walked away, had a glass of water and tried to attack this guy again. Took a sip and immediately recognized the sourness without trying to pick it out.

Either the sourness is being exaggerated by how "hot" this beer still is since it is clearly after it's best after date or the infection has clearly totally ruined the beer.

I outright dont know what to think but it will be interesting to see what more time will do to it and how Deschutes responds to the complaints received.
