Just drank a bottle that was probably made at the same time as the one I had a few months ago, clearly nearly as fresh/good. When it is fresh, it is much better.

its really amazing how just a month can rape some beers

Sadly realizing that with my current brewing process I do clearly have batch sizes large enough to keep up with the demand. In a matter of a week and a half I went from having 4 things on tap to only 1. I have people visiting in 3 weeks that want to try my homebrew and sadly I probably wont have anything on draft to offer them.

it was an impulse buy just for the container to fill with homebrew, it came in a variety case of lager, dark lager, pils and hefeweizen

of all the choice available to you, this is one i would clearly spend money on if you were looking to pick it apart and taste it for enjoyment. if it is cheap and you just want to slam a few down, it isn't bad for that (but i suspect there are other cheaper offerings to get that done)

most of my experience with the pilsner style is honestly nothing more than a glorified miller lite and *insert random unexciting BMC beer here*

every once in awhile i run into one that has a super fresh hop aroma and I like it (Selin's grove brewery immediately comes to mind as my favorite pilsner with its amazing almost ipa like hop character)

Brew a hefe for something ready quick

Even a hefe would be pushing it. I tried to force one out in 14 days and it turned out bad. At best my next brew day could be saturday, it would be done fermenting and clearly carbonated by the time I needed it in 2 weeks. Even force carbing takes at least 3 days. I donno.

My batch size is max of 11 gallons, 5 gallons gets kicked a weekend easy. If we have people on Friday and saturday.. gn8

Also I might add that I am getting pretty fucking sick of hefe... 2 batches ago the hefe was 10 gallons, I aged 5 gallons on blackberries. The most recent batch was also 10 gallons and i aged 5 gallons of it on blueberries this time... so each time i had hefe on tap i had a regular one and a berry aged version

they didnt last but about a week and a half or so per keg

im debating doing a saison this weekend.... donno

I have had success force carbing in a days time but dont recommend it

If you don't recommend it that doesnt sound very successful...

the only brew I force carbed in a single day was a maibock and the bubbles of carbonation were freakishly large. Even with letting pressure out of the keg it left a "carbonated" taste in the beer.

It was successful but I feel as if you lose some quailty. In a pinch it is great but giving it more time is better ofc

ISO suggestions for quick fermenting beer. My taps need refilled.
Looking to stay away from hefeweizen.

Scott, what's another quick fermenter that is meant to be drank young? Roggenbier, saison...what else?

A low abv pale ale or stout would work.

Basically you just want to stay about 4-5 abv and you can get it ready in that time frame np

a common flavor with barleywines was the first thing i noticed, and overall i thought this was solid

It was kinda a mess imho

i am a sucker for the vanilla flavors that are there after oak aging but it just didnt jive for me... something about oak aging a beer to introduce vanilla and then tossing resinous hops into the mix and a bit of chocolate malt is just clearly a good combo to me

for like 9% alcohol, it was very bold... ive had beers with more alcohol than that that didnt come across as being so "harsh"

harsh is the last thing i remember from that beer

if you think that is bad i would love to see the dissapointed look on your face after drinking stoudt's Old Abominable barleywine

Reviewed each of the Heavy Seas variety pack, plus a random tallboy of some German pils that was in the fridge, thus drinkable as someone else was driving. Heavy Seas Loose Cannon is probably my favorite IPA, especially because it always seems to be extremely fresh.

Tonight's drinking - two incredibly disappointing Flying Dog beers out of the variety pack that I rated generously because my sinuses were congested, and Samuel Smith's Cherry Ale, which blew my mind - it isn't a beer with fruit added, it isn't a beer made with fruit, it is very fresh fruit juice with a variety of beer yeast and malts designed around it to make it a beer. While is is very fruity, it is just enough of an ale to be a beer, and it is like nothing I have had before. I will try this again and re-review it to compensate for beer-shock.

I can't find it much, I found the variety pack mixed in with an odd stock - most of the macros in 30s + 6s, a handful of common micros like Sam Adams, and a ton of lesser seen breweries - they had the entire line of Samuel Smith beers, quite a few from Rogue, and a very odd selection of lower end foreign beers like Zywiec and Bitburger (the latter of which I enjoyed quite a bit), plus some fairly exotic and hard to find beers. They have three locations and a friend who lives near another one has gotten a ton of good beers there that I have never seen otherwise. They also have a massive selection of wine. Stew Leonard's Wines and Spirits - the booze counterpart to Stew Leonard's grocery stores, the world's largest dairy and a fixture of the area, the only family owned megastore (in size, but with a local market feel) that is almost entirely supplied by local farms and always has top notch fresh food at reasonable prices. I love that place and wish it wasn't so out of the way from home/work/school.



Asked about the barley wine because you suggested it, still can't find it

when i buy it at my local place it always has a sticker on it with a bottle #

if you want i can send you some... i just dont really know what is exclusive in MD that you cant get in CT, only being a few states north

clearly sure on that, I'll be at the beer cavern next weekend so I'll check there, if I can't find it I'll let you know and I'll make a bigger list of what I can get here to send out. My first thought for CT beer is Olde Burnside, but they only do growlers that require refrigeration.
